The Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool is one of the worldwide construction sites for the upgrade of the Inner Tracker (ITk) for the high-luminosity upgrade of the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The ITk upgrade is a new detector for measuring the momentum and origin of charged particles emanating from the proton-proton collisions in the centre of the experiment.
The University of Liverpool will produce approximately 3000 strip hybrids, and approximately 580 strip and 500 pixel modules for the ITk. We are looking for two research technicians to take a crucial role in the production of these modules. These are highly skilled roles, crucial for the delivery of a world class detector for the LHC. The successful candidates will assemble high quality hybrids and modules, perform quality control, and record the related data to the database before preparing the items for shipping. They will work effectively as part of a team to ensure the project is delivered to schedule.
• Research technician for the construction and quality control of pixel and strip modules, during production for the ATLAS Upgrade project in the Department of Physics.
• The manufacture and assembly of high precision particle detector components.
• Occasional communication with staff and students on issues relating to the technical services, facilities, and equipment.
• A technical role supporting a large volume of varied activity in an academic department/school/institute or centralised teaching facility.
These posts coincides with the production phase of the ATLAS ITk upgrade. Subject to funding availability, there could be future possibilities of employment within the Department on other projects requiring similar skills and experience.
These roles requires the highest standard of cleanroom working disciplines to be applied. You will be required to work from formal engineering drawings and specifications. Good sensory and physical co-ordination is essential given the small scale and delicate nature of the detectors. Experience of working in a clean room environment and on wire-bonding are highly desirable.
You will have good communication skills and the ability to instruct others (e.g., students) in the production procedures. You will have a BTEC Higher (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or relevant professional experience.

About the role

We are seeking to recruit a Repairs Surveyor on a permanent basis to ensure our housing repairs service is delivered to our customers, across our properties and contributes to our overall neighbourhood improvement plans.

This role is a hybrid role, with a regular requirement to attend our neighbourhood sites across Merseyside to complete surveys and inspections and meet with customers, as well as attending our Watson Building office in Liverpool.

Chartered Surveyor – Role Overview

District Valuer Services (DVS) provides professional property services across the public sector, including to private and third sector clients in delivering public services and functions of a public nature. Our clients include the Central, Local and Devolved Government, Health and Transport.

This role sits within the Transport Sector, where we work with major infrastructure providers including National Highways, Transport Scotland, Welsh Assembly Government and HS2. We deal with all aspects of compulsory purchase and compensation, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver infrastructure projects from early stage design to the final settlement of compensation.

You will work within a fast-paced team to meet increasing client requirements across a range of complex compulsory purchase casework including litigation cases. You will deliver complex casework, provide technical guidance to clients and colleagues and support other caseworkers within DVS. You will also assist with building capability within the team.

This exciting opportunity will also include project management and leading high profile casework for high profile clients.

Chartered Surveyor – Key responsibilities

• Dealing with a large complex portfolio of work requiring extensive experience of complex Compulsory Purchase casework
• Maintaining and applying an advanced level of valuation surveying knowledge to casework activity, review of high profile or complex valuations and project management. 
• Identifying risks and issues and making recommendations on action to be taken
• Collaboration with all internal stakeholders across DVS.
• Ensuring an awareness of the wider political, economic, social, technical, environmental, and legislative agendas that impact the Transport Sector.
• Acting as an expert witness, appearance before arbitrators or submission of evidence to independent experts and Lands Tribunals, where required.
• Providing technical support to, and oversight of, less experienced colleagues
• Supporting the DVS management team and working closely with Team Leaders in the transferring of skills across the sector to build capability.
• On occasions, the role may require the successful candidate to undertake work outside the usual area. We are reasonable with our expectations and provide flexible working arrangements to support this need.

Quantity Surveyor

Based: Warrington office; flexible working between the office, site and some home working. Sites will be throughout Liverpool/North West - Typically working 08:30 – 17:00 Monday – Friday

Within our Social Housing Planned works programs and Voids, you will work both from home/office and on site, collaborating with your team in an environment that is inclusive and fair for everyone. Work streams will include both internal and external programmes, such as Sustain. Kitchen, Bathroom, Painting and Void schemes

You will be commercially focused to ensure we obtain and evaluate information to guarantee a realistic cost for the supply of works, goods, materials, and services for designated Repairs and Refurbishment Projects. Whilst liaising with Contractors, Suppliers and Clients to ensure information, costs, profitability and value meet the requirements of designated project/contracts.

An outline of your responsibility as a Quantity surveyor

Monthly CVR preparation
Prepare and monitor cash flow forecast for designated projects.
Ensure all invoices submitted accurately and for certified value to ensure payments are received on time.
Support your team to value and authorise payments to sub-contractors within the region
Liaise with Contract Managers to establish the project specification and requirements.
Attend and contribute to meetings with work colleagues and or Clients/Customers when necessary, building relationships and demonstrating excellent communication skills.
Assist in the preparation, processing and selection of estimates, bids, and tenders to demanding timescales.
Support the team with monitoring the contract progress, assess, and report any changes that may affect project costs and or time scale.
Assist in the control of contract budgets.
Assist in the development of the procurement programme.
About You

You will have experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor ​within the Construction industry and refurbishments, it’s a distinct advantage if you have an understanding of the Social Housing planned works sector, which will give you the knowledge to hit the ground running and contribute effectively to the team. Applicants will ideally have a couple of years experience of managing their own workload/contracts, knowledge of the CVR process and schedules of rates. Applicants will also have strong commercial acumen, excellent attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills. You will be an expert with IT with proficient MS office skills. You also must hold a Full UK Driving Licence as travel is a must with this role.

The key responsibilities of this position revolve around delivering comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate education in the realms of Building Surveying and the broader Property discipline. Ideally, you will exhibit a robust background in either Dilapidations Building Pathology and/or Sustainable Technologies.

In addition to you teaching commitments, you will be encouraged to participate in research endeavours and make substantial contributions to the academic pursuits of the School. Furthermore, you will have active involvement in the development and execution of outreach programs, engagement initiatives, and collaborative interdisciplinary projects.

You should be a seasoned commercial Chartered Surveyor with proven hands-on experience within the UK property market. Additionally, you should hold chartered membership with a relevant professional body, such as the RICS. It will also be essential that you have firm grasp of the British education system, and while a PhD is not obligatory, it is highly desirable.
