Hays Construction are now recruiting a Senior / Quantity Surveyor for a highly reputable, family-run main contractor based in Lincoln. This contractor has over 20 years of experience producing impressive projects across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. They have built an excellent reputation for providing an innovative and progressive approach to both public and private sector clients. Their project experience covers the key sectors including Hospitality, Private & Commercial, Residential, Health, Office & Retail and Education. Due to continued success and a further increase in company growth, a position is now available for a Senior / Quantity Surveyor to join their Commercial Team.

Your new role

Within your new role you will manage the cost of projects worth up to £20m. You will be responsible for providing Quantity Surveyor functions including commercial transactions, commercial reporting and cash flow management on allocation projects. You will work within an integral part of the business, reporting directly to the Commercial Manager and working closely with the Operational Team, ensuring projects are delivered on programme and within budget.
You will be office based 4 days a week and required on site at least once a week.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a degree-educated Quantity Surveyor, and must have at least 5-10 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor. Experience of working on civil projects would be an advantage. You will be computer-literate, and will have experience of using relevant software. You will be ambitious, commercially astute, and keen to establish yourself as a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a growing main contractor who will be offering you a long-term career.

Your new role :

Reporting to the construction Manager and working closely with the Operational Team you will be responsible for the cost estimating, tendering, front end pre start of a variety of projects as well as providing regular updates on the performance of on-going projects valuing up to £10mil.
As the Quantity Surveyor your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out the day to day administration of the commercial and financial aspects of projects bids
• Close liaison with the Project Management Team(s)

• Preparing Cost and Value reporting

What you'll need to succeed :

In order to be successful in this role, you will have prior experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor at pre construction stage for a construction company or have solid experience and be ready to take a step into a more senior role. This role would require you to have strong negotiation skills to work with subcontractors and clients to reach positive commercial terms and minimise any commercial risks to the business. You must have good technical knowledge and skills in the construction sector and a good knowledge of commonly used contracts and frameworks. Ideally, you will hold a formal qualification in quantity surveying at degree level. However, candidates will be considered with HND/ HNC qualifications and relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

• A degree/HND or equivalent in Commercial Management/Quantity Surveying or other construction related subject or substantial previous experience in a similar position
• A commercially and contractually astute individual that takes ownership of performance
• A proactive person with a disposition to take action pre-emptively to manage risk and opportunity
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Results driven with the capability of working on their own initiative
• Ability to deal with large amounts of data accurately and efficiently
• High attention to detail

• Conducting damp and timber surveys, including diagnostics of rising damp, woodworm, dry rot, and condensation issues.

My client is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor in the Immingham, Humberside area.

This is to work on a heavy civils docking project carrying out work for a new roll-on/roll-off facility consisting of a new jetty with three berths, improved hardstanding, Terminal buildings and an internal side bridge to cross over existing port infrastructure.

This is to start in November for a minimum of two years.
