So…. What is this role exactly?
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor working within the Asset Management Team.
It is a great time to join us as we establish a central commercial function, with significant planned works programmes identified, investment in our complex buildings and the continued growth of our in-house repairs team (Fix360), you will have the opportunity to help shape our ways of working and improve our commercial management process throughout the Asset Directorate.
We are looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic with a Quantity Surveying background and strong commercial/financial track record developed within a multi-stakeholder and regulated environment.
You will manage and report on the financial and contractual arrangements with internal and external contractors, suppliers and consultants across diverse construction activities including responsive repairs, cyclical maintenance, voids, facilities management, compliance and planned investment projects.
What will my working week look like?
You will be homebased, living within the North West or within a reasonable travelling distance of our Head Office in Warrington, to attend meetings and training courses. You’ll be required to visit our Head Office approximately twice a month.
What will I be responsible for doing?
First and foremost, you will be responsible for the management of commercial activity for YHG including planned investment, major projects, compliance, aids & adaptations, cyclical maintenance, renewable energies, facility management with commercial support to other area’s including responsive repairs, voids.
One of the great things about this role is you have the opportunity to manage the financial and contractual arrangements with both internal and external contractors, suppliers and consultants across various works packages and disciplines.
You will:
- Assist with the procurement of new contracts; frameworks and one off “RFQ’s”
- Draft and complete standard forms of contract
- Monitor and report on expenditure: Planned v Actual, including cash flow forecasts and re-forecasting as required
- Set, review and monitor performance in line with contract
- Provide financial statements and progress narrative
- Provide quote/costing reviews using a range of rate sources and utilising industry experience
- Assess and certify applications for payment
- Co-ordinate and assist in the preparation of tender documentation to allow us to secure the services of a robust supply chain either at project level or multi supplier frameworks.
- Mange a small team of commercial support role

To be a successful as Quantity Surveyor, here at YHG, you will have
- Essential: Quantity Surveying Degree
- Essential: Min 2 year Post Graduate experience ideally within Social Housing
- Knowledge and track record in the procurement and commercial delivery of construction contracts within the public sector either client or contractor side
- Knowledge and experience administering JCT contract forms
- Experience of commercial management of property related contracts
- Understanding of capitalisation guidance and process
- Good understanding and management of risk and financial planning
- Strong knowledge of building legislation and maintenance management best practice
- System experience desirable but not essential in: Orchard, Ebis, Acuserve, Keystone
