The School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, now seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow in Building Surveying. The key responsibilities of this position revolve around delivering comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate education in the realms of Building Surveying and the broader Property discipline. Ideally, you will exhibit a robust background in either Dilapidations Building Pathology and/or Sustainable Technologies.

In addition to you teaching commitments, you will be encouraged to participate in research endeavours and make substantial contributions to the academic pursuits of the School. Furthermore, you will have active involvement in the development and execution of outreach programs, engagement initiatives, and collaborative interdisciplinary projects.

You should be a seasoned commercial Chartered Surveyor with proven hands-on experience within the UK property market. Additionally, you should hold chartered membership with a relevant professional body, such as the RICS. It will also be essential that you have firm grasp of the British education system, and while a PhD is not obligatory, it is highly desirable.

The School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment is now looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to join us as Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow in Quantity Surveying. You will deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a strong emphasis on measurement/costing and contract administration competencies. You will be responsible for ensuring the curriculum remains current and industry-relevant by incorporating innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students. Providing academic support and mentorship to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment is essential.

For both positions you must demonstrate a strong background in quantity surveying and have a willingness to integrate cutting-edge digital technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and automated quantity take-off software like CostX. It is desired that you have an interest in the gamification of education and an openness to teach using immersive technologies to enhance student engagement. Developing and maintaining strong links with industry partners to ensure that course content reflects current industry practices and trends is crucial.

For the Senior Lecturer position, it is essential that you either hold or are nearing the completion of a PhD or possess substantial industry experience coupled with chartered membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., RICS). In this role, you will engage in research activities that enhances the School's academic reputation, collaborating with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and seeking opportunities for external funding.

For the Senior Teaching Fellow position, you must have relevant industry experience or teaching experience in higher education. Professional body membership is also desirable. In this position, you will engage in pedagogical research that will lead to innovative classroom methods and enhancing the overall learning experience. Additionally, you will be required to contribute to the development and delivery of programmes in the Degree Apprenticeship provision of the School.

Regardless of position, you should be dedicated to connecting theory with practice in the teaching of quantity surveying and committed to promoting equality and diversity within the School and University. A willingness to engage in outreach and engagement initiatives is also essential, ensuring that the educational experience remains enriching and supportive for all students. This is a full time, permanent position working directly for the client overseeing projects across a mixed sector.

The purpose of the role is to oversee a mixed value of projects in areas such as social housing, NHS, schools and local government.

Responsibilities:

• Issuing of sub-contractor tender enquiries
• Evaluation of sub-contractor quotations
• Convening and attending sub-contractor Pre-Contract meetings
• Preparing formal sub-contract Agreements
• Site measurement of building works undertaken
• Valuation and payment of sub-contractor interim accounts
• Agreement of sub-contractor final accounts
• Assisting in the preparation of monthly CVR reports
• Preparing and submission of monthly Profit and Loss reports
• Preparing and agreement of external Applications for Payment
• Agreement of Client variations

Requirements:

• Previous experience within commercial management running several jobs at the same time of value between 500k to 15 million.
• Previous experience working in Social Housing, Local Council, NHS & Maintenance Environment
• Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation and contract law
• Understanding of local government and legislation in relation to construction and subcontractors
• Up to date relevant knowledge of standard contract forms
• Commercial knowledge of market rates appropriate to the business sector

They are seeking a Talented Senior Quantity Surveyor to expand their commercial team for their upcoming projects in Merseyside and the North West.

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor you would be reporting to the Commercial Manager and collaborating closely with the tight knit Project team to ensure delivery of high quality Groundworks and Reinforced Concrete projects. You'll be responsible for managing costs and cash flow on site and measuring works completed for the various ongoing projects in the region.

Experience & Qualifications

• Academically Qualified with a Degree/Certificate/Diploma in Quantity Surveying
