This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, DAYSHIFT
This is an office-based position in Balamban, Cebu, the shipping capital of the Philippines.
The expected start date is March 2024.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Junior Naval Architect, you will play a vital role in the ferry/ship design projects. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for executing drawings, structural calculations, and design for assigned projects. Your work will directly contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality ship designs that meet flag, classification societies, and technical specification requirements. With a focus on meeting project schedules and allocated design budgets, you will have the opportunity to showcase your technical skills and problem-solving abilities. In addition to your design responsibilities, you will provide technical support to the Structural Design Team, fabrication, and supply chain. This role offers the chance to work on challenging and innovative projects, making a significant impact in the maritime industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Execute drawings, naval architecture, structural calculations, and design for assigned ferry/ship design projects:
- Utilize your knowledge of naval architecture principles and design standards to create accurate and detailed drawings, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and requirements.
- Apply structural engineering principles to perform calculations related to ship stability, strength, and performance.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders, such as engineers and designers, to ensure the integration of various design components into the overall ship design.
2. Perform design and calculations with limited supervision to ensure compliance:
- Demonstrate your ability to work independently and efficiently, taking ownership of assigned design tasks and completing them within designated timeframes.
- Adhere to flag and classification societies' rules and regulations, ensuring that the designs meet all necessary standards and certifications.
- Conduct thorough analyses of design specifications to ensure that the ship is fit for its intended purpose and operational requirements.
3. Generate deliverables such as drawings, reports, and other relevant structural documentation:
- Prepare clear and comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, reports, and technical specifications, to communicate design concepts and requirements effectively.
- Create detailed reports on structural analyses, presenting findings and recommendations to the project team and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as the Structural Design Team, fabrication, and supply chain, to provide the necessary technical support and ensure smooth project execution.
4. Supervise structural designers and draftspersons as required:
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members, ensuring their understanding of project requirements and adherence to design standards.
- Review and evaluate the work of structural designers and draftspersons, providing constructive feedback to ensure the accuracy and quality of deliverables.
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in ship design/shipbuilding.
- Strong technical skills and the ability to problem solve.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, and preferably STRAND (or other Finite Element Analysis package) and Maxsurf.
- Experience in supervising teams.
Desirable:
- Licensed Philippine Naval Architect and Marine Engineer.
- Experience in aluminium shipbuilding.
- Familiarity with 3D SHIP CAD software (SHIPCON).
- Proficiency in other 3D modeling software
