UCLH Band 4 – Tobacco Dependency Advisor
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a motivated smoking cessation Advisor, working in a new team headed up by the Substance Use Project Manager. The successful post holder will be integral to the running of our tobacco dependency service.
We are looking for dynamic team player who will bring enthusiasm to our project whilst working with our patients to encourage and help them to stop smoking for good. Training will be provided to implement an in-house, evidence-based quit service following the Ottawa Model.

The project is part of an NHS England pilot for smoke-free hospital settings, delivering on a key ambition in the NHS Long-Term Plan.
The post holder will Provide advice on nicotine replacement therapy and other medications to facilitate stopping smoking. You will work with patients on a 1:1 basis and in group sessions and follow systems and processes to allow staff and patients to access evidence-based stop smoking interventions and record results.

We are looking for advisors who will work at Doncaster Women's Hospital as part of an integrated team to improve health outcomes for children and families with an emphasis on providing individualised smoking cessation support. The role can occasionally be community based in Doncaster alongside the work in Doncaster Women's Hospital therefore candidates should have a full driving license and access to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area.

The primary role of the advisor is to engage service users who smoke, to facilitate smoking cessation. This involves supporting service users to initiate and maintain a quit attempt through a personalised care plan, including advising on the use of nicotine replacement therapy.

The role involves keeping track of referrals using electronic patient records and contributing to data collection. Close liaison with our Midwifery partners, and teamworking with a range of RDaSH colleagues also forms part of the role.

The advisors may also be required to support the 0-5 Health Visiting Service in delivering the Healthy Child Programme to improve the health and wellbeing of children and families and provide individual and group breast feeding support.

JOB DETAILS Job Title: Tobacco Treatment Advisor (QUIT Healthy Hospital programme-Mental health) Grade: Band 3 Responsible to: Healthy Hospital Programme Manager Reports to: Health Improvement Manager: Reducing Harm From Tobacco (QUIT) Location: Kendray Hospital, Oakwell Unit, Barnsley 2. JOB PURPOSE This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The post holder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed. As part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw QUIT Programme we are increasing the support we offer to people who are admitted to, or attend our Hospitals and community based services, to help them to stop smoking or to reduce harm from tobacco and be smoke free during an inpatient admission (temporary abstinence). The programme will also provide more support to staff who wish to quit and help us to have smoke free hospitals and grounds. The QUIT programme recognises smoking as an addiction (tobacco dependency) and that it is a chronic, relapsing clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of people who smoke. Smoking is seen as a medical condition that can be treated, rather than as a lifestyle choice. This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people with severe mental health problems or learning disabilities to stop smoking. The post holder will provide tobacco treatment advice and support to individuals and groups of people, who want to stop smoking, reduce their harm from tobacco or for temporary abstinence when in hospital. This will be for both patients, staff and in some instances parents/carer of people who have been admitted. Specifically the post holder will: Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support. Work with people to change their behavior to improve their health to include patients and staff. Act as a smoke free champion promoting the smoke free message through their day to day work. Provide advice and support to ward staff, including reinforcing the training provided to inpatient teams by the Healthy Hospital Programme Manager and Tobacco Harm Reduction Manager to reduce harm from tobacco and the promotion of smoke free settings. Ensure robust discharge planning for the patients ongoing tobacco dependency treatment for patients wishing to quit or who have an ongoing harm reduction programme. 3. An exciting opportunity has a risen to join a new Treating Tobacco Dependency Service offering specialist support to patients admitted to our inpatients sites across LSCFT. This service is key to delivering the ambitions of the NHS long term plan to provide treatment for tobacco dependency for all patients admitted to hospital, making a significant contribution to public health and reducing health inequalities.

Tobacco addiction is a chronic relapsing disease and the single biggest cause of preventable death, disability, illness and social inequality. One in two smokers die due to their smoking. People with mental health condition have higher rates of mortality compared to the general population and smoking is the single most contributing factor to their 10-20 year reduction in life expectancy.

This post will involve working directly with patients to assess their needs related to tobacco dependency and to work with them to identify treatment and specialist support to enable them make a successful quit attempt. Support may be face to face, remote consultation or via telephone.

We are looking for team members who are motivated, organised and dynamic who are passionate about supporting care and improving lives through engaging, motivating patients to stop smoking.

This is a role is diverse and will offer the opportunity to visits sites with the LSCFT to deliver smoking cessation , deliver and training and to support the implementation of the Trust Tobacco Smoke Free Policy. What is the job role?

2 year Fixed Term Contract. 37 hours per week.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Public Health team, leading on the Public Health Tobacco Control portfolio.

The post will:

• Oversee the development, delivery and programme management of multiple public health programmes and projects
• Identification and analysis of health needs in key population groups and health outcomes
• Development of evidence-based strategies to reduce smoking prevalence
• Lead on & oversee the implementation of these strategies
• Evaluate the impact of programmes, projects & service redesign
• Provide advice and guidance to support the commissioning of services that lead to the delivery of improvement in health outcomes
• To work within the City Council's commissioning and procurement processes
• Lead on the development of sub-regional working for relevant programme areas

Who are we looking for?

• Significant experience in project management with an ability to lead and influence to achieve action and outcomes
• Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels
• Experience of working in partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary sector partners, along with the ability to manage multiple demands, work methodically and achieve targets / deadlines
• Skilled at prioritising work, managing time and working autonomously under pressure to deliver to deadlines
• Able to lead and work strategically across a range of sectors and create trusted relationships
• Able to influence, negotiate and challenge effectively
• Have a passion for reducing health inequalities
• Be keen to develop and learn new knowledge and skills in a supportive team environment

• Knowledge and experience of project management (including achieving KPI’s/targets, monitoring and review, budget control)
• Knowledge and experience of strategic partnership working across a range of sectors including local authorities, NHS and voluntary and community organisations
• Knowledge and experience relevant to Public Health Tobacco Control (e.g. NHS Long Term Plan Tobacco Dependency Programme, Smokefree Generation ambition, Tobacco enforcement, Vaping)
