The Skills, Employment & Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top-quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work. We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people.

We are here to support all Coventry’s diverse residents, each with differing needs and tailor their support to help them search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements. People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.

What is the job role?This is an exciting opportunity to join the Skills, Employment and Adult Education service and be part of our Job Shop delivery. Our projects are part funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the West Midlands Combined Authority’s.
Due to several new pilot projects and a spike and increase in customers requiring support, we are seeking a number of employment coaches to provide employability advice and guidance to our residents.
We are a multicultural team and service and as an Employment Coach, you will deliver a first-class service to provide Coventry’s equally diverse range of residents, from varying backgrounds and differing needs, to provide a high-quality and personalised service to ensure they receive full support, enabling them to move closer to and into good quality employment. You will have passion to help others by effective employment coaching and supporting people into work.
Who are we looking for?We are looking for individuals who have experience within the employability and skills landscape, able to advise and guide residents on a pathway that enables them to a positive destination ideally a job, training, further education and / or apprenticeship.
You will need to be excellent at developing positive working relationships and able to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and needs including, disability and mental health and crucially have the skills and ability to listen, understand and identify how you can support each customer in a positive manner.
The following are a must:
- Be able to demonstrate previous experience or a willingness to work with all customers including vulnerable young adults or adults with disabilities.
- Have an understanding and an enthusiasm for supporting customers through their journey into further education or employment.
- Understand how to successfully liaise with key partners to ensure all customers have the opportunity of employment.
- Have experience of or the ability to work within a customer facing role.
In addition, the post holder will be customer focussed, able to work under pressure to meet outcomes with a sense of urgency but maintaining a customer focussed approach. Excellent communication and technical skills are key to provide, record, retrieve and report information.
The employment coach will be based between our central hub within Coventry City Centre (Job Shop) or support the Outreach Hubs in the community.
This is a full time - Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2025.
