The Role

Essex County Council is seeking Maingrade Educational Psychologists who are passionate about applying psychology to join our quadrant led teams of dynamic Educational Psychologists. We welcome applications from all including Trainee Educational Psychologists in their second or third year of training.

Our offer:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, progressive and committed team of practitioner psychologists. As an Essex EP you will be supported via a comprehensive induction process and an exemplary programme of ongoing clinical supervision. You will also benefit from an excellent continuing professional development programme which includes eight whole-service CPD days and four personal CPD days (pro-rata) each year. This includes an annual two-day Projects and Research conference with presentations from innovative national and regional speakers as well as updates on research projects from within the service. Essex has excellent links with doctoral training programmes and a number of our Essex EPs are also academic and professional tutors. As a maingrade EP, you will have the chance to develop your practice with support and guidance from our team of senior specialist colleagues, who are passionate about sharing their knowledge, applying evidence-based approaches, and developing psychologically based interventions. Ongoing projects also include VIG, and ELSA. Our Educational Psychologists also provide support and guidance to schools and settings following a Critical Incident. In addition, there are opportunities to develop your own special interests by working alongside Essex's strategic leads relating to specific areas of SEND.

We are looking for candidates who:

• are eligible for Graduate membership with the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS);
• hold a Doctorate or a Masters degree in Professional Educational Psychology;
• are registered with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist or will be eligible for registration with the HCPC at the end of their training;
• have a good understanding of relevant legislation and evidence-based approaches and interventions; and
• are committed to applying psychology to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Essex.

Purpose of the post:

• To lead and focus on compliance and maintenance across the North Yorkshire cluster of schools

• Contribute to the longer term 5-year cycle of estates management maintenance plans.
• Assist with the inspection and condition of school grounds, buildings, building services and facilities.
• Assist with the co-ordination of specialist contractors and participate in out of hours’ emergency call outs.
• Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) within skills set, for example, fault finding, repairs, minor improvement works across the sites.
• Perform a wide range of the work of other trades as skill level permits.

Mental Health Practitioner - Mental Health Urgent Care Department

Base – Basildon Hospital

Hours – 37.5hrs Full Time (Full Internal Rotation)

The Mental Health Urgent Care Department, is a facility where adults, aged 18 years and above, who are experiencing a mental health crisis can receive an urgent biopsychosocial assessment with immediate care planning. It is a new, purpose built department based at the Basildon Mental Health Unit on the Basildon university Hospital site.

The post holder will work as a Band 6 Senior Practitioner with the urgent care team providing high quality, evidence-based, holistic assessments to patients attending the service. Assessments must be completed in line with your professional code and Trust policies and clinical guidelines

The service offers full emergency mental health assessments and onward care planning with a diverse and highly skilled mental health workforce incorporating support workers, peer coaches, social worker, nurses and doctors.

The role will require the post holder to work collaboratively to support every aspect of emergency mental health care planning from GP referrals, ambulance conveyance to Mental Health Act Assessments, whilst providing 24/7 access for ‘walk in’s.’



You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care based upon individual service user needs, under the guidance of the Clinical lead as per NICE guidance.

Provide delegated accountability for Band 3 Health Care Assistants ensuring clinical competence and understanding, with effective support and guidance during the shift.

As required by your manager, you will have deputise when required for the day to day co-ordination of the shift within the Urgent Care Department, for example to cover breaks and the clinical lead’s attendance to urgent clinical matters as they arise.

You will work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services; providing a 7-day a week, 24-hours a day service for 365 days a year working shifts where appropriate and operationally required.

Professional Functions:
