The Divisional Director of Operations (DDO) is a pivotal member of the Divisional team. The DDO will contribute to the development, implementation and delivery of the Trust’s strategic and operational objectives to provide services that optimise patient care, ensure efficient use of resources and promote a culture that is progressive, inclusive and driven by a core set of values.

The Divisional Director of Operations has devolved responsibility and accountability for the operational delivery and strategic development of the Division. The DDO’s key role is to support the Divisional Medical Director, Director of Nursing and Head of Midwifery alongside their teams in ensuring the provision of high quality, efficient and effective services, contribute to the strategic direction of the Division and provide general management expertise to the Divisional Medical
Director and Clinical Directors to enable them to effectively discharge their responsibilities and accountabilities.

The post holder will act as a role model for outstanding leadership and management and play a vital role in developing and implementing the Division’s clinical and business strategy, service developments and business plans in line with the Trust’s vision, values and strategic goals. The DDO contributes to the Trust’s wider strategic and service development agenda, taking responsibility for Trust-wide projects as agreed.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales,
the Trust’s catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west,
to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford
and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located
20 minutes drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both
hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident
& emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical
care.

We also provide services such as consultant-led outreach clinics at
the Wrekin Community Clinic, Telford, the Robert Jones and Agnes
Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen and the Bridgnorth, Ludlow and
Whitchurch Community Hospitals.

We employ more than 6,000 staff, and hundreds of staff and students from other organisations also work in our hospitals. We benefit from around 1,000 wonderful volunteers, and our main charitable partners are the League of Friends at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Friends of the Princess Royal Hospital, and the Lingen Davies Cancer Appeal which is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

This is a 6-month secondment opportunity for an individual working within the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Integrated Care System or as part of the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin based NHS England National Recovery Support Team. The Chief Delivery Officer is part of the Executive Team who will lead the improvement of the ICS on behalf of the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin system. The Chief Delivery Officer will work across organisational boundaries at the highest level across the System ensuring that the approach to an integrated system operating model, leading at scale improvement workstreams, and alignment with strategic planning and commissioning develops in line with the ambitions of the System in the coming years.

The Chief Delivery Officer has the following key functions as part of the system operating model:
• The System Control Centre
• The EPRR function and the identified Accountable Emergency Officer
• The system elective scheduling function (RAS and TRAQS)
• Programme Management Office
• Service Improvement







Our Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint covers a large geographical area of 1,347 square miles and covers a population of around 500,000 people across the area of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. The ICS boundaries are coterminous with our two Local Authority footprints of Shropshire County Council and Telford and Wrekin Council. We have two acute hospitals, with services delivered by one acute trust, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH). Managing a team of Senior Nurses you will have the ability to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public whilst possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met is a key requirement of the role. The Surgical Division is currently developing a new state of the art Elective Surgical Hub at the Telford site. This purpose built unit will incorporate 4 new theatres, recovery areas and admission & discharge facilities. They have also secured the new Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and are currently planning services to incorporate into theatre activity. They are also in the process of creating services within orthopaedics including a designated Trauma & Orthopaedic Assessment area and transformation of trauma services on the Shrewsbury site.
