Salary: £39,700 - £42,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM with a 1-hour break)
The Butcher and Groceries Shop is a well-established local business in Reading, previously known as UK Halal Meat, renowned for providing high-quality fresh meat and a diverse range of groceries. As we transition to new ownership, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Butchery Manager to lead our team and help maintain our tradition of exceptional customer service and strong community connections. We may need a Butchery Manager to ensure the continued success of our business during this transition.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the overall operations of the butchery department, ensuring smooth day-to-day running and compliance with company standards.
• Supervise and support Sales Assistants and Butchers, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and performing their duties effectively.
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting customers, answering inquiries, and processing orders and payments, including coordinating deliveries and pickups.
• Cut, grind, and prepare meat and fish products for sale while maintaining high quality and presentation standards.
• Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces to ensure hygiene and safety compliance, and fulfill custom orders or special cuts requested by customers.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, estimate stock requirements, place orders, and negotiate terms to ensure the consistent supply of quality products.
• Oversee inventory, budgets, and records, conducting month-end reporting and stocktakes to maintain operational efficiency and cost control.
• Ensure compliance with food hygiene, safety standards, and industry regulations, conducting regular quality checks and inspecting equipment for safe operation.
• Schedule and manage staff rotas, work activities, and holidays to ensure the department is adequately staffed at all times.
• Provide training and coaching to Butchers and Sales Assistants, fostering their development, setting objectives, and maintaining a positive and collaborative working environment.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in retail management, ideally within a grocery, butchery, or food-related environment.
• Strong leadership abilities to effectively manage, train, and motivate a team.
• Excellent organizational skills with clear and effective communication abilities.
• Proven capability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Sound knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and cost control.
• A customer-focused mind set, dedicated to delivering exceptional service and satisfaction.
