Design Manager - 1 Contractor - Major Civils & Rail Framework - (Covering - West London to Bristol)

My client is a top tier Civil Engineering Contractor.

They are presently delivering geotechnical and civils improvement works on a major Rail Framework which spans from West London to Bristol.

They are seeking to employ a Design Manager to assist with the timely delivery of projects in this region.

Previous experience of working on Rail and Civils project experience is essential.

Role and Responsibilities:

- Manage permanent works design subcontract packages to achieve delivery of cost-effective and compliant Contractor's design within agreed timescales and fee budgets.
- Implement design management procedures so as to comply with ISO 9001 design requirements and Client requirements for management of contractor's design specified in the Contract.
- Lead project's implementation of Value Engineering, Design for Health and Safety BIM.
- Draft project-specific Design Management Plan and revise same periodically
- Control and track design changes using the Design Manager's Toolkit.
- Implement the joint venture's and/or client's design assurance procedures.
- Facilitate technical co-ordination between disciplines
- Facilitate review of design deliverables to ensure required Quality is achieved, particularly with respect to: Compliance with Client's requirements as defined in the main contract;

Skills and Experience:

In a typical day, you could expect to be.

• Responsible for delivering a broad range of HV and LV works via teams of direct employees and sub-contractors.
• Securing projects of significant value, building appropriate technical resources and delivering success in a traditional profit and loss type of business.

Relevant Experience.

• Ideally, you will have spent time either as a High Voltage project engineer or in an HV SAP or Electrical AP role previously or will have had extensive experience in managing an HV business.
• You'll have an electrically biased background alongside recognised safety qualifications such as IOSH/SMSTS/NEBOSH

• Support our bid team to ensure our bids are compliant from a tendering and design perspective.
• You will bring experience in Electrical practices and planning and managing work programmes and effective resource utilisation
• A background in procuring sub-contract services, managing commercial/contractual risks, contract resolution and financial planning will also be key for this role.

We have a team of Gardeners supporting this role; therefore in addition to the creative focus on the historic gardens, managerial experience is also essential.
Key duties:

To curate the gardens at Longleat so that its history and artistic integrity are conserved and presented in an exemplary manner, and documented according to the Longleat Estate Heritage Management Plan and nationally recognised standards.
To manage all day-to-day aspects of the formal gardens, lawns, borders, hedge maze, horticultural displays, and ensuring their appropriate presentation and cyclic maintenance.
Ensure that exemplary standards of horticultural husbandry and plantsmanship, as befit a prestigious Estate such as Longleat, are employed and presented to our guests throughout the gardens.
Undertake and assist research into the garden, landscape and plant collections as directed.
To support on site based garden and landscape project management and co-ordination of small and medium capital developments and provide support to the project teams for larger projects.
To assist with the development of a planned 12 month planting programme to ensure we always look at our best for our guests, which will include achieving key deadline dates through the year.
To support with the ordering and purchasing of plants as per our planned programme.
To ensure that all areas are fully compliant with H&S legislation and procedures in accordance with Longleat policy to include appropriate risk assessment, reporting, training, in particular security, and fire.

You will have:

A minimum of RHS level 3 or NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
A passion for and great understanding of plants and horticulture.
Good knowledge of and experience with garden maintenance equipment and machinery.
Extensive hands-on experience working in a large garden/estate, with strong horticultural skills and technical knowledge.
Supervisory or management experience of small teams.
Full clean Driving License.
