In your capacity as Sodexo's Cook Manager at Brewood C of E Middle School, Brewood, you will be in charge of managing the finances and food and beverage operations for your school's kitchen. It will be your duty to make sure that the food and service meet the highest standards and that the school catering is among the best in the area. Your attitude will affect the way your team functions on a daily basis as the person they look to for guidance and encouragement, which will promote a positive and effective work atmosphere. What you do:

• Manage the replenishment of food and the dismantling of work areas at the end of service.
• Develop, mentor, conduct training, and inspire the kitchen team.
• Control the complete catering operation, including labour, food, and stock expenses.
• Manage and optimise all costs that are under your control.
• Ensure uniformity in the food and service standards provided to fellow staff members, visitors and students.
• Manage the creation and development of menus.
• Conduct routine audits to ensure standards are being followed.

What you bring:

• Must have expertise on cooking on a large scale, anywhere between 100 – 1300 students.
• Have experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
• Have previous staff supervision experience or line management experience.
• Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
• Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy Kitchen environment.
• Be professional, leading by example and having a positive outlook is key.
• Hold basic food handling skills certification:
  • NVQ Level 2
  • Level 2 Food safety Certificate
  • A minimum of 1 years of experience in hands on cooking, training on Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety will be given.

Main Responsibilities

We have a fantastic opportunity to lead our dedicated team in promoting sustainable waste management at our Household Waste Recycling Centres!

As a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) Team Leader you will:

• Be able to effectively lead and motivate a team to help maximise the quality and number of materials separated for recycling.
• Plan and organise the activities on site, organise staff responsibilities and be the face of Staffordshire County Council to on site visitors and, where required, deputise for the HWRC Supervisor.
• Be a great communicator and be able to demonstrate a positive and encouraging leadership approach.
• Have experience using IT systems and be confident using Microsoft office software.

Your day-to-day duties will vary, and may include the following:

• Helping the public use the site in a safe manner, adhering to all Health and Safety guidance.
• Being the accountable fire marshal and first aid trained responder on site.
• Providing friendly, informative and professional customer service.
• Protecting yourself and your team by promoting high standards of health and safety.
• Safely operating equipment and machinery and reporting any faults and issues.
• Working with commercial traders, providing advice and handling payments.
• Reporting unauthorised waste depositing and promoting environmental sustainability.
• Supporting other HWRC teams as part of the Staffordshire HWRC Network.

This role is based at our Stafford location.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

• A Certificate of technical competence in Hazardous Waste Transfer (Ideal, not essential to role)
• Experience of leading a team
• Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and operations
• A flexible approach to duties, willing to learn and be trained
• Good verbal and written communication skills – to facilitate inductions, training and communication with site staff, management, clients, contractors and the public
• Strong numerical and literacy skills and paperwork and recording skills
• An understanding of recycling and recyclable materials is an advantage
• Trained First Aider, or willing and capable of being trained
• A Full UK driving licence
• Experience in operating a above 10ton 360 wheeled excavator. ( or willing to learn)
• Experience in the operation of Household waste recycling centres (HWRC'S)
• Good attention to detail
• Willing to work weekends and Bank holidays
