About the Role
Base Location: Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around the UK.
Salary: £53,100 - £79,700 depending on skills and experience + performance related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We are looking for a regulatory, strategy, or policy professional to join our recently formed strategy team in SSEN Distribution. As a successful candidate, you will take the lead on the development of our strategy for delivering net-zero into 2035 and beyond, working closely with colleagues across SSEN Distribution and SSE Group, and with our stakeholders:
- Developing and influencing policy: developing SSEN Distribution's position to new policy areas, working closely with colleagues across regulation and corporate affairs, undertaking analysis (qualitative and quantitative) to support our position and communicating that position at industry working groups and in formal written responses to Ofgem and Government;
- Representing SSEN Distribution in external fora: including industry working groups and senior stakeholders;
- Providing regulatory and policy advice to the wider business in key areas: this may involve for example advising on specific regulatory submissions (for example uncertainty mechanisms or reporting requirements); and
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations: overseeing internal processes and governance to maintain licence compliance. Interpreting new licence requirements and working with operational teams to put new internal policies in place to deliver against those new requirements.
This is a high visibility role in SSEN Distribution, and as successful candidate you will have the opportunity to build and maintain relationships across the business and the wider energy sector. You will be able to make a genuine impact by contribute to the delivery of net-zero commitments on the ground and influencing the wider policy and regulatory environment. Your ability to provide strategic and regulatory advice across the company and to those in the team will be key to your success.
What do I need?
A passion for net-zero is a must, and we would also love you to have:
- Strong policy and/ or regulatory skills, including the ability to develop robust evidence-based policies.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, including the ability to turn complex analysis into insights, and the ability to test and challenge analysis carried out by others.
- First class communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence stakeholders, target communications to your audience, and tell a meaningful story.
- Previous experience of working in policy, regulation, or strategy either in government/ regulators, the energy sector, other utility sectors, or consultancy.
- The ability to build effective working relationships and proactively drive projects forward at pace and to demanding deadlines.
