This is a fantastic opportunity for a Factory Technical Manager to join Boston Meals. The site employs over 700 people and specialises in making chilled Italian ready meals and pasta salads products for a dedicated customer.

The main focus of the role is to drive the delivery of Technical Standards across the sites’ Operations.

The role will ensure that the correct standards are understood by all relevant persons and effectively challenged, by way of Audit. This will underpin the sites Food Safety, Product Quality and Integrity – and hence demonstrate our leading standards.

Accountabilities

- Develop and implement effective KPIs that measure, trend and identify issues to be communicated both internally and with customers. Develop and agree action plans using root

- Provides practical support and drive to promote a Quality Assurance culture in the Business. Provides specialist technical knowledge to enable the Business Unit to exploit manufacturing, NPD and commercial advantage whilst ensuring the required standards of Food Safety, Quality and Legality are met. As part of the site leadership team, ensures operational team promotion of a Quality Assurance culture within the factory environment.

About you
Ideally, food related degree qualified, you will have significant experience within a Chilled Food environment – and a good understanding of High Care, High Risk, RTE, RtRH and RTC disciplines.

You will be a clear and effective communicator – able to ‘frame’ situations / incidents etc – to a wide range of stakeholders – to gain their understanding and commitment.

A calm logical thinker – an evidence based decision maker, who when challenged can demonstrate rationale of thought.

Thorough, tenacious and resilient – an individual who will use these attributes to understand and address the root cause of Complaint issues, adverse micro results etc.

You will be responsible for the management, prioritisation & allocation of ad-hoc reactive engineering tasks and ensuring that planned tasks are carried out to the correct standards.

Job accountabilities would include:

- Understand the site daily priorities / plans, direct and motivate their engineering shift team as required
- Manage the engineering team (including contractors) to ensure delivery of scheduled work and reactive work so that plant availability is optimised and manage technical specifications for ingredients, products, processes & packaging
- Implement agreed training & development plans to meet engineering & production needs. Comply with statutory & Bakkavor Health & Safety requirement, ensures reports work in a safe manner. This will include ownership of dynamic risk assessment process
- Ensure engineering downtime is minimised, accurately logged, and monitor the repair time. Liaise with planning and operations team to allow for PPM to be completed in a timely manner
- Communicating, report and update Production Shift Managers, Senior Production / Engineering Managers and relevant Production Team Leaders regarding current breakdown status, impact and lead time to resolution
- Ensure all stock is logged in and out of the stores area highlighting any stock issues to the engineering team manager
- To maintain standards of hygiene and good housekeeping appropriate to a quality food manufacturer. GMP standard of workshops and engineers tool boxes is maintained at a high level
- Be the Engineering point of contact during & out of hours
- Respond to and prioritise the shift to resolve line running issues
- Carry out all other ad-hoc Management requests as consistent with the role


About you.

- Engineering or Mechanical Apprenticeship (City & Guilds and National Certificate)
- Fault-finding skills
- Understanding of problem-solving techniques; RCA, 5Y.
- Experience and understanding of machine controls and PLCs.
- Practical mechanical and electrical experience within a production environment, ideally in food manufacturing
- Demonstrable understanding of Production prioritisation (desirable).

Your new role
Due to continued growth they are now looking for a Site Manager to oversee one of their developments in the Boston area, reporting into the Contracts Manager you will be responsible for a project of 60+ units.
As part of the role you will be responsible for the supervision and co-ordination of staff, sub-contractors, material suppliers well as utility providers, ensuring that building methods align with build quality and programme targets and that company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
As well as this you will ensure Health & Safety is to the highest standard and aligns with the company policy as well as implementing training as and when required on the site.
You must also ensure the quality, compliance and the customer journey is maintained to the highest standard and in line with NHBC standards.
