Senior Firmware Engineer
Crawley (RH10 9HA) - Hybrid - Relocation can be provided
We're recruiting for a Senior Firmware Engineer with a proven track record for delivering complex Firmware to lead and support product development for a wide range of land, sea and air based programmes within our Intelligence team.
Thales in the UK is at the forefront of Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) Air, Land and Maritime systems. With more than 40 years’ experience developing and delivering manned and unmanned airborne surveillance systems, we are a leader in sensors, communications, mission systems and in the fast-growing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) market.
We're looking for proven experience of Firmware and/or Digital Hardware design activities. The role will offer experience over a number of different product areas, encompassing everything from product design and development through to larger scale platform integration.
Key Tasks
- Decomposition and interpretation of system requirements & algorithms
- Lead design and development of firmware using Hardware Description Languages or High Level Synthesis Languages
- Verify firmware using Hardware Description languages or Hardware Verification Languages
- Integration of firmware on the target hardware
- Test, measurement, debug and verification (digital)
- Design Assurance (Complex Electronics)
- Technical assistance to production
Skills, knowledge and experience required
A relevant degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications),.
- Digital electronic design in hardware development language (VHDL)
- Digital Signal Processing techniques
- Knowledge of RF processing techniques would be advantageous
- An excellent understanding of the fundamentals of High speed digital design
- A working knowledge of Signal Integrity Issues
- A working knowledge of Microprocessors, programmable devices, DSP, FPGA, memory
- Knowledge of PCB design constraints
- CAD tools: Xilinx experience would be highly advantageous, Mentor HDL Designer for VHDL entry, Mentor Graphics ModelSim for Verification.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Airborne Electronic Hardware
- Product development experience for commercial markets
