You will join a high profile dedicated Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team working within our new Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit at UHCW where you will be based. Lead a team of clinical trials technicians to implement new clinical trials within the Trust across all clinical specialities. A highly experienced Doctor is required for the Vascular Surgery team here at UHCW, with Vascular Surgery experience equivalent to Senior Registrar level. UHCW is a busy major trauma centre serving Coventry and Warwickshire (1.2 million population) and beyond. We have a surgically led EVAR service with an active complex aortic programme (Fenestrated EVAR, TEVAR). We work closely with our cardiac surgeons and have monthly complex aortic MDTs. We have an active research programme and teach Warwick Medical Students as well as postgraduate doctors. As part of the role, there will be learning opportunities throughout the year in arterial, venous and endovascular surgery and opportunities for research projects. There will be active support to help the suitable candidate to achieve CCT as appropriate. There will also be some commitment to transplant surgery on-call only. The role will be full time, Monday to Friday with additional out-of-hours on-call activity at SpR level on the vascular/transplant rota (1:7), which attracts additional remuneration. Experience of vascular surgery is essential.

In line with the NHS Long Term plan, the principal aim of this role is to improve the quality of care for patients treated for atrial fibrillation (AF) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) within the Coventry and Warwickshire ICB. The post-holder will be expected to provide a cost-effective clinical pharmacy service, and review patients within primary care who are not optimised for the above conditions.

The post-holder will work with secondary care colleagues, to help identify patients who are not optimised on their lipid lowering therapy in line with local guidance. They will also be tasked with reviewing patients who have a diagnosis of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) in primary care and optimising their anticoagulation regimen if appropriate.

The role will involve data collection to demonstrate benefits to patient population in completing these interventions, as well as working closely with other health care professionals to provide teaching and education sessions.
• Work as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the primary care to develop a tailored lipid management plan for identified patients with ASCVD.
• Identification of sub-optimally treated ASCVD patients who are not achieving target lipid levels as outlined in in local guidelines
• Identification of patients with NVAF who require anticoagulation, and initiating therapy where appropriate.
• Review of treatment options for lipid management and anticoagulation in appropriate patient populations, in collaboration with patients
• Counsel and optimise cardiovascular medications in patients where appropriate

Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service at UHCW, working as an expert practitioner, providing advice and consultancy to patients, healthcare professionals and other agencies relating to pharmaceutical aspects of treating patients within your clinical speciality. To operationally manage the Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit (PMRU). To include day to day running, staffing levels, co-ordination of staff training and workload (e.g. dispensing, stock control, setup of new studies, implementation of amendments, monitoring visits, IMP destruction/reconciliation, auditing etc). To report on key performance indicators and raise any service-related issues to the Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials. 2. Ensure that pharmaceuticals dispensed in clinical trials conducted by the Trust comply with all EU, HRA, HSE, Home Office and MHRA legal and good practice requirements by liaising with and providing advice to: The Research and Development department Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trial and the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team Clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, ATOs and administration staff Pharmacy department managers including Quality Control, Aseptic Services and Dispensaries. Pharmaceutical Company Clinical Research Associates Contract Research Organisations 3. Ensure that patients receive appropriate information on the pharmaceutical aspects of a clinical trial by providing written information for dispensary staff and answering specific queries from all clinical staff and patients. 4. Maintain a system to ensure that the pharmacy department receives all income due from pharmaceutical companies for trial work undertaken and that changes to contracts are reviewed and appropriate for the work undertaken. 5. In liaison with other team leaders and senior technicians, take responsibility of technicians/ senior technician support in clinical trials. 6. To support the implementation of quality improvement, new services (e.g. implementation of ATMP studies) and regional and national initiatives, such as the HRA Technical Review and EDGE Trial Management System. Applications are open for a HPB Senior Clinical Fellow who wishes to gain experience in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery. The role would be suitable for a senior trainee or a post CCT fellow for a minimum of one year.

• The Senior Clinical Fellow will be expected to manage Pre and post op patients.

• The Senior Clinical Fellow will be encouraged to publish and present at local and international meetings in HPB.

• Modular HPB cases hands on training (STU) for both benign and malignant conditions

• Cross site case observations

In addition to HpB registrar work, the duties of the post include providing senior cover for HPB patients, attending theatre/outpatient sessions and care of admitted General Surgical patients. There is a commitment to the acute general surgical rota (commensurate with experience). The appointed candidate will be expected to carry out a degree of clinical work (clinics) independently

There is access to modern imaging (CT PET), Endoscopy (ERCP and EUS) and robotics on single site.



This post offers excellent exposure and experience in complex HPB surgery. The Senior Clinical Fellow is expected to develop operative skills in robotic surgery and judgement in the care of such patients through the full spectrum of the specialty.
