The Role and the Department

The Projects & Infrastructure team is responsible for construction project delivery across the Durham University estate. The team manage a large capital programme from inception to completion, delivering projects on budget, on programme and to a high standard of quality.

The Assistant Mechanical Building Services Engineer will support Mechanical Engineers and the wider team in the effective management, provision, alteration and upgrade of the University's mechanical infrastructure.

Development Role

This is a development role, and you will develop mechanical building services engineering and construction project management skills, leadership attributes and skills. You will undertake a development programme leading to a formal Building Services Engineering qualification.

The qualification will form part of a development plan focusing on the requirements of the Grade 7 role, while also considering your individual needs. This plan will be regularly reviewed and forms the basis of the assessment to move to the Grade 7 role.

We are seeking to appoint a Grade 6 Research Assistant for an externally-funded project examining the use of baby carriers and slings in the UK. The role will involve designing and conducting a systematic review of research evidence, designing and conducting online surveys with families and practitioners, critically evaluating existing guidance and making recommendations. The post in time-limited due to external funding and may be conducted full-time (35 hours per week) over 6 months or part-time (minimum 17.5 hours per week) for up to 12 months.

• An Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake and pass

The Role and Department

Café assistants work in one of our nine thriving cafes which are located across Durham University Campus.

As a Café Assistant, you will be working part of a team to provide students, colleagues, and guests with a courteous, professional, friendly, and efficient catering service. Working as part of the catering team you will ensure that Retail Outlets are set up to an exceptional standard and remain clean, tidy and a safe working environment. Washing up is completed as part of the role, this will include the use of an automatic dishwasher, and after service, all food areas are cleared and cleaned. Working in a catering environment requires an element of physical manual handling which can include lifting and transporting food and catering equipment, including heavy plates and cutlery.

We will require you to be punctual, flexible, and willing to work variable shift patterns, including evenings and weekends.
