An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy team. We are looking for a full-time position for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant.
This is a Band 3 post. We will give you the opportunity to work through our competency framework relevant to the area which you are working in. You will build your skills and confidence working with a range of patients and reflecting on your caseload with your allocated supervisor. We will set regular reviews to ensure you are meeting your competencies as expected.
You will be organised, enthusiastic, a good communicator and ideally have previous experience in a rehabilitation or care delivery setting. You will be assisting in the rehabilitation of patients with a wide range of neurological needs (including physical, communication and cognitive) which may include both individual sessions and group work. You will be working closely with the Speech and Language Therapists and a wider MDT including the medical team, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Nurses. You will need to be able to keep accurate clinical records and have good clerical/ administrative skills.
The role will be based on the Acute Stroke Unit at the Lister Hospital where we offer a 7 day SLT Service.
The post-holder will be responsible for supporting Speech and Language Therapists with the assessment and management of adults with acquired communication, speech, language or eating and drinking disorders.
You will carry out therapy plans with patients who have recently had a stroke, building excellent rapport with patients and providing them with a high level of care.
You will need to be able to keep accurate clinical records and have good clerical/ administrative skills.
You will support the team with resource building, such as low tech augmentative and alternative communication aids (AAC).
The Speech and Language Therapy Service in East & North Hertfordshire is an integrated acute and community service covering community clinics, inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation and the Acute and Stroke teams based at the Lister Hospital. There are frequent opportunities for gaining skills in other areas and career progression.
You will be joining a highly experienced team of Speech and Language Therapists who work innovatively across acute, community and neurological rehabilitation settings. You will be working within an established and dynamic MDT, with multiple opportunities for joint working.
