Position: Teaching Assistant for Primary Aged Children with Autism

Our school in Exeter is dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for primary aged children with Autism, some of whom may have experienced trauma and are non-verbal. We are committed to fostering growth, development, and success for all our students, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Job Description:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with our dedicated team of educators to provide individualized support and assistance to students with Autism. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the implementation of tailored educational plans for students with diverse needs.
- Providing one-on-one support to students during classroom activities and transitions.
- Supporting students with communication challenges, including those who are non-verbal, through alternative communication methods.
- Assisting with sensory regulation strategies and creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborating with teachers and therapists to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
- Building positive relationships with students, fostering their social and emotional development.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with Autism and/or special educational needs is preferred.
- Understanding of Autism spectrum disorders and strategies for supporting individuals with diverse needs.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support are desirable but not essential.
