Serco Marine Services have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Tank Cleaner to join the team in Portsmouth.
Please note: This role will suit someone interested in becoming a fully trained and qualified Tank Cleaner. The position will offer on the job training so that you can meet all necessary qualifications with a generous pay increase as you progress within the role. This will take a maximum of 24 months for full completion of training. The salary will increase in year one to £30,200 and will then rise to £33,283 in year two
- once fully trained and qualified.
This role is to empty and clean various storage tanks and ships’ bilges. You will also eventually be required to drive, operate and ensure roadworthiness of vacuum bowser lorries in support of Marine Services contract.
Main Accountabilities:
- Emptying and cleaning of tanks as part of a team which may contain Diesel Oil, lubricating oil, fresh water, salt water ballast, grey water, Aviation fuel, sewage treatment plants/holding tanks and ships bilges.
- To undertake role of Authorised Person (Confined Space) (AP(CS))
- Rig and recover cleaning gear.
- Assist in other areas of the business as directed by the Operations Department.
- Emergency equipment and procedures and location and use of firefighting equipment.
- To drive and operate vacuum bowsers and maintain associated records to comply with current legislation.
- To assist the Transport Manager as required.
- To work as part of a team to maintain, deploy and recover Oil Pollution equipment.
Timelines of training:
Year one: successful completion of necessary courses to achieve fully qualified tank cleaner status
- Confined space entry, confined space rescue, water jetting licence, first aid, rope handlingYear two: Training for HGV Class 1 (C), ADR, gas tester (AGT1), oil spill response, AP(CS)Skills, experience and qualifications that you will gain at completion of training:
- Working in Confined spaces
- Jet Washer Safety Awareness Course (Approved WJA).
- Surface Preparation and Cleaning Application Course (Approved WJA).
- ENG 1 Medical Certificate.
- HGV Drivers Medical
- C HGV driving licence
- Valid Drivers CPC
- ADR certificated. (Tankers and liquid fuels)
- Knowledge and use of Digital Tachographs
- Health and safety Awareness.
- Manual Handling.
- Authorised Gas Tester (AGT1)
- Authorised Person (CS)
- Oil Pollution Equipment awareness training.

- Full CLEAN UK Driving Licence
- Computer Literate
- Strong English language skills
- Due to the nature of the job – There is a legal requirement to be over the age of 18
