A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding and friendly pharmacy department on a 2-year fixed term training post. Learn while you earn!

As a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician apprentice, you will undertake an approved Level 3 or level 4 qualification (dependant on knowledge provider). As the programme is delivered as an apprenticeship, you will be expected to spend time in the workplace and 20% off the job learning. This usually means one day a week for study and workplace training for the remaining 4 days a week learning professional knowledge, skills and completing required competencies.

On successful completion of this 2-year training programme you will be eligible to register with the pharmacy professional body, the General Pharmaceutical Council, and become a registered Pharmacy Technician.

Work based training will involve working alongside all different members of the pharmacy team to gain knowledge, skills and experience into the core areas of pharmacy practice, as well as the wider working of the KCHFT pharmacy team.

As a team we provide a wide range of pharmacy services including in the following areas:

• Supporting patients in their own-home
• Specialist Services, which includes specialist nursing, special schools, ADHD clinics, dental services and more.

You will also spend time with pharmacy services in other organisations to develop a broader knowledge and skill set. The mortuary service at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for either a qualified anatomical pathology technologist or a trainee who is a degree graduate with a biological or forensic degree and wishes to start a career in anatomical pathology.

To qualify as an anatomical pathology technologist you will need to complete the RSPH level 3 diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology. We encourage staff to continue their training with the level 4 diploma to become specialist anatomical pathology technologists. Both qualifications are supported by the Trust.

Candidates need a flexible approach to work with a positive attitude and ability to cope with the varied and demanding work supporting end of life care.

Successful candidates will participate in cross site working and when trained, participate in an on call out of hours service.



To work as part of a team to assist in the provision of mortuary services -

The Head & Neck Unit is located in the New Cancer Centre at the nearby Churchill Hospital. The Department has a substantial presenceatthenearbyNuffieldOrthopaedicCentre,wheretheplasticsurgery servicehasahandsurgeryworkload,andprovidesreconstructivesupporttothe Bone Infection Unit and Sarcoma services.



We run 3 theatre lists per day at the John Radcliffe, Monday to Friday (2 elective, one emergency), and emergency lists all day on Saturdays & Sundays. There are theatre lists most days at The Churchill and NOC, and also minor operations lists. Clinics run daily in the John Radcliffe as well as weekly in the Churchill, NOC & Horton Hospitals.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE / DUTIES



You will be expected to attend handovers, ward rounds, undertake ward work and attend trauma and elective activity across the spectrum of plastic surgery, with opportunities in outpatient clinics and theatre. There are regular teaching sessions andpersonal development days are often able to be incorporated into the rota. Attendance at the monthly academic, MDT and clinical governance sessions is expected.



Your role will involve the following service provision:

§ Inpatientcare

§ Providing medical management for all plastic surgery inpatients at the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Churchill Hospital or the NOC, as appropriate

§ Emergencyservice, including first on-call when holding the SHO bleep, managing referrals internally (from A&E and other wards) and externally (from primary care and referringhospitals)

Responsible for entering and processing prescriptions into the pharmacy operating system with both speed and accuracy. Communicates with customers on the telephone and responds quickly and courteously to their needs.

Current available shifts: Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, 11am-7pm, 12pm-8pm & 2pm-10pm & Saturday rotation- (Weekend rotation Non-Negotiable)

Compensation Range: $19- $24 per hour

Essential Job Functions (include the following): 

• Enter new and refill prescriptions into operating system in accurate and timely manner to eliminate errors at dispensing
• Triage incoming fax prescriptions to ensure timely dispensing
• Ensure proper notes in computer and cycle fill coding
• Calculate and/or verify the correct dosage based on the prescription
• Demonstrate caring, understanding and courtesy when responding to calls from customers. Route calls as appropriate to ensure top level service
• Ensure all prescriptions assigned for processing are completed in regular shift
• Receive, evaluate, process and follow-up as needed with doctors’ offices on all refills assigned
• Develop proficiency in the utilization of all pharmacy systems (ie document imaging, legacy pharmacy computer operating system)
• On an as needed, may assist with filing of completed orders, packaging of medications, inventory, profiling of orders for medical records, and filling processed prescriptions to dispense to the patient
• Develop and learn cycle in order to meet delivery deadlines. Maintain data entry records for cycle medication, fill requests and process cycle medication orders needing renewal in addition to new cycle orders as applicable
• Other essential functions and duties may be assigned as needed

Education and/or Certifications 

• High School Diploma or GED (per state requirements)
• Pharmacy Technician license/certification/registration (per state requirements); National Certification preferred (PTCB)

Skills and Qualifications: 

• 2+ years of related experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience)
• Advanced computer skills; pharmacy operations system experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and deliver to deadlines
• Ability to solve problems with minimal direction
• Great attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment working on multiple tasks simultaneously, while adhering to strict deadlines
• Quality minded; motivated to seek out errors and inquire when something appears inaccurate

Work Environment:

• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holiday and overtime.
