The Role and the Department

The International Office is responsible for:

• The recruitment of international students to all areas of the university to meet institutional targets
• Supporting and managing the development of international partnerships to raise the University's global profile and to support academic colleagues in developing international links and collaborations
• Managing the university's student mobility programmes to meet the University's strategic objectives and in particular to widen access to global opportunities.

As a member of the Global Opportunities Team, this role supports the delivery of the University's Global Strategy and achievement of relevant key performance indicators through the development, promotion and efficient administration of international student mobility programmes (incl Turing).The International Coordinator is part of a small and busy team delivering the University's international exchange and study abroad objectives. Their specific responsibilities will be to support the administration of outgoing student exchanges with partner universities including the payment of Turing grants to eligible students and support for the development of key University partnerships. In addition, it is expected that the postholder will retain responsibility for supporting the wider range of activities in which the team is involved including work in support of our incoming fee-paying study abroad programme, as required.

The International Office currently operates on a hybrid working basis.

This department is also responsible for:

• Ensuring grid reliability by executing the day-to-day operations
• Maintaining the protective relays and SCADA control systems in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Relay Technician Interns will work alongside Journeymen and Apprentice level Relay Technicians to get exposed to the technical skills and safety focused work behaviors necessary to be proficient in this profession

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops understanding of the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, communications

• Develops basic isolation procedure writing

• Develops understanding of how to utilize print reading, red mark process

• Develops understanding of RTS and its use

• Develops understanding of NERC compliance and importance for accurate data and timely completion

• Develops basic trouble shooting skills

• Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 18 years of age prior to beginning employment with Duke Energy

• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

• Valid driver’s license

We are seeking Electrical Engineering students to join us as a Power Delivery Engineering Intern to work in our Durham, NC office.  As a member of our team, you will partner and collaborate with senior engineers and other interns to solve real world challenges for our utility grid customers.  This work will expand upon your current knowledge and skills and will assist you in gaining expertise in the power delivery field.

THE CHALLENGE (Role and Responsibilities)

• Must have an interest in developing your skills in creating the work packages for transmission, distribution or substation engineering projects.
• Assist with the preparation of project deliverables including but not limited to engineered drawings, technical reports, project-related correspondence and miscellaneous project documentation.
• Assist the team with the development of processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency.
• Work in a team atmosphere to provide technical and project support for high voltage transmission line projects as well as low voltage distribution projects.

WHAT SETS YOU APART (Required Skills)

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering program in an accredited university with a current GPA of 2.6 or higher.
• Ability to work in both a field and office setting.
