As the day shift/first shift Architectural Unit Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for preventive maintenance inspections, maintenance, repairs, and in-house modifications associated with the architecture at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. The John D. Dingell VAMC has an active hematology/oncology section currently staffed with three hematologist/oncologist and is a tertiary care (1c) facility located in Detroit Michigan. Our Facility is a major academic affiliate of Wayne State University School of Medicine. In addition, we participate in a joint hematology/oncology fellowship program with the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Provide care for patients with malignant and benign hematological disorders and patients with oncological disorders in both the outpatient and inpatient setting
• Experience in performing bone marrow aspirates and biopsies is required

• The physician will be expected to teach fellows, residents, medical students and provide education for other attending staff

• Active participation in selected multi-disciplinary committees related to cancer care is required

• Responsible for vouchering and payment processing using the invoice payment processing system (IPPS) to ensure payment is proper and timely.

• Receives obligation documents for certification as to the availability of funds. This is a detailed process involving a multiplicity of obligatory instruments requiring determinations from several appropriations and funds. These are further subdivided into programs, limitations and analysis, which must be verified as proper prior to obligation.
• It is imperative that obligations made for documents submitted to Fiscal Section for certification are contained within the limits of funding available. Failure to do so can result in serious consequences to the station.
• Utilizes an extremely complex interrelated system of fund control, cost, general ledger and allotment a counting. Numerous combinations of the above are utilized in making a single analysis. The incumbent is responsible to make determination for each document processed.
• Monthly reconciliation of subsidiary records to FMS Reports generated.
• Prepares and verifies numerous types of FMS code sheets which generate general ledger entries for all of the above types of transactions.
• Performs a variety of duties in relation to maintaining controlling accounts and subsidiary records such as general post funds, personal funds of patients, suspense fund accounts, employee travel advances, and inventory accounts.

This position is responsible for performing installation, modification, preventative maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment, components, and complex systems which includes, but is not limited to, multiplex fire alarm system, electric track vehicle, systems (ETVS), computerized security systems, medical center radio paging system, CCTV system, variable frequency motor controls, nurse call system, electronic panic alarm systems, audio-visual receivers and recorders, televisions, and digital electronic equipment and components. Major duties includes, but are not limited to:

• Repairing, adjusting, modifying, installing, troubleshooting and inspecting systems necessary for the medical center's operation during days, afternoons, or evening shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Performing all installations, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance at a journeyman level for the facilities electrical, electronic, and medial gas systems.
• Installing, fabricating, maintaining, troubleshooting, analyzing, and making repairs to all of the electronic and medical gas systems and associated apparatus from simple to most difficult.
• Using guidelines, including, but not limited to, national electrical codes, national fire codes, national mechanical codes, local building codes, VA specifications, regulations, policies, procedures, programs, manuals, and other established guidelines.
• Reading blueprints, sketches, as-built drawings, manufacturers, instruction, brochures, diagrams, guidelines and schematics in order to perform repairs safely and to prevent injury to self and others.
• Installing electrical equipment such as conduits, junction boxes, fittings, cables, fixtures, switches, outlets and all components to make a complete working system.
• Operating a variety of electrical and electronic testing, metering, measuring devices, and testing equipment to help in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
• Closing out all work orders on a daily basis to include documenting work performed and their work hours on work orders for job assignments and preventative maintenance.
• Performing repairs during non-duty hours on the essential electronic equipment breakdown on emergency call-in.
• Installation, termination and testing of low voltage cabling such as but not limited to, fire alarm, CAT6A, HDMI, coaxial.

The Health Technician duties include:

• Welcome callers courteously and identify themselves/ the service/ the organization. Communicates effectively via telephone and in-person and uses strong listening and speaking skills. Properly operates telephone equipment in order to transfer or place calls on hold. The incumbent will consider both verbal and nonverbal aspects of communication.
• Practice excellent customer service skills in all forms of communication, either via telephone, e-mail or in-person. The incumbent must also practice proper business telephone etiquette while answering the phone. When communicating with customers, incumbent will be pleasant, friendly, personable, and professional.
• Maintain the vital connection between Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) Associates, Registered Dietitian, higher graded dietetic technicians, food service staff, Nursing, patients and guests. NCC Associate will follow local-facility policies and standard procedures for patient feeding, including but not limited to missed patient meals, late tray requests, patient meal ordering, and adherence to prescribed therapeutic diet.
• Triages calls from inpatient units or outpatient clinics and procedure areas relating to patient meal trays or nourishments at the lowest level and will refer issues that cannot be resolved to Food Service Supervisor or other as determined by local policy.
• Retrieve computerized information/printouts to assist with tray and/or nourishment assembly such as standing orders, nourishment labels, tabulated recipe lists, and other simple information to assist in meal delivery. Organizes work to complete assignments.
• Assists patients in selection of the proper foods according to their individual diet. Uses communication skills to converse with veteran's to accurately take menu orders via COTS Dietetic software System.
• Able to provide Veterans, guest/family members, VA employees (i.e. nursing staff) with basic information about the menu, available food items and refers concerns on compliance problems or appetite to supervisor and/or dietitian. Has working knowledge of diet principles, such as carbohydrate counting for meal planning. Conducts new-admit patient rounding to introduce and discuss, menu available food items and ways to order meals with patients and residents.
• Handles routine telephone inquiries from nursing units/nursing personnel regarding patient meal orders and may maintain a log of telephonic client inquiries/concerns received directly from the client or unit personnel based on local policy.
• Initiates corrective action and/or notifies appropriate dietitian/dietetic technician for follow up.
• communicates patient concerns with registered dietitian or dietetic Technician as appropriate and communicates with supervisor to complete all task assigned such as production/menu changes, menu specials, or menu shortages.
• Verifies physician orders for unusual diets, conflicting modifications, tube feeding orders and nutritional supplements.
• Ensures supplemental feedings are correctly entered.
• Cleans and maintains NFS equipment such as refrigerators and juice machines located on patient units.
• Prepare nourishments for patients.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
