• Working with risk and control owner teams to help deliver against aligned customer, business and strategic outcomes.
• Producing timely and accurate documents and reports by collecting risk and control data from a variety of sources and input data into standardised formats.
• Assisting the development of the first line control management centre of excellence that supports safe growth and enables high quality customer service.
• Delivering prescribed outcomes by working with established control design, mapping, monitoring and testing approaches. Reporting findings to senior colleagues.
• Assisting in the management of actions on operational risk events and breaches following Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA). Identifying issues and then suggesting and implementing improvements to the control environment with guidance from senior colleagues.

What you'll need

We're looking for someone who can apply Operational knowledge of our Consumer Lending business unit sufficiently to be able to support a range of processes relating to implementation of the Risk Taxonomy, RCSA management and control execution. Ideally with experience in a related field (eg audit or risk & control management) or, alternatively, having gained capability through experience in a similar function along with:

• Control management - experience of data-led control management and its practical implementation. Good organisational skills to support the preparation of documentation that includes summarising data and information to produce and maintain standardised risk and control process maps. Ability to provide support to the ongoing development of control tooling solutions to enable optimisation and automation of the control environment.
• Data & Analytics- ability to understand and assimilate different sources of data and complex information to support with effective problem solving that leads to relevant conclusions and recommendations. Experience of bringing to bear strong analytical skills to support the assessment of the control environment effectiveness using a wide range of information and sources to identify potential impacts on the business.
• Reporting- ability to provide support with control testing activity to enable the production of concise reporting outputs on the efficiency and performance of controls and compliance.

The role will provide confidence as to whether NNL is operating in a legal and compliant manner, meeting its regulatory and stakeholder requirements in the topic areas of technical, engineering, design, management systems, project management, corporate governance, risk management, finance, procurement and commercial. It will do so by carrying out 3rd line oversight of the company's internal controls processes and the 1st and 2nd line assurance activities implemented by NNL.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield, Workington, Preston or Risley.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Assurance Leader:

• Maintain an understanding of NNL's operations and how they relate to the NNL mission, particularly in relation to those within their topic area, to provide a firm basis for interventions (i.e. audits).
• Maintain an understanding of future regulatory changes in the topic field covered by the remit of the role in order to advise the Board on the impact of these changes on NNL's reporting and internal controls.
• Understand the business risk profile using both formal risk registers and any other available internal and external information, prioritising this information to provide input to the annual Independent Assurance) work programme to plan the work for the area and set the scope of interventions.
• Gather evidence of business compliance with their processes and requirements using a range of tools and techniques and prepare reports highlighting areas of good practice and areas of lack of compliance and concern.
• Undertake specific investigations / interventions relating to the topic area covered by the remit of the role on request of the Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (ARAC) or the Board and report back to the ARAC/Board on the outcome of such assessments. Undertake periodic effectiveness reviews on Board related improvements as required.
• Report on assurance outcomes (findings) against risk areas visited and devise suitable recommendations to enable process owners toto address these, driving positive behaviours and continual improvements. Recording the reports and findings on the company database.
• Monitor their progress against the Independent Assurance team programme to ensure that the agreed areas are covered on schedule and to appropriate depth.
• Directly influencing Board members, Executive Directors, leaders and senior managers towards mature assurance on a 1:1 basis and through feedback of intervention findings.,
• Review of external audit / intervention reports to provide ongoing oversight and challenge in order to assure NNL's close out of external non-compliances or non-conformities.
• Upkeep and control of any maintained documentation e.g,. procedures and instructions relevant to their area of responsibility to ensure that documentation is current and in-date.
• Oversee any training materials for their topic area to ensure that training is in line with best practice and company procedures.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to any potential new assurance resources required for succession planning with the Independent Assurance team as a subject matter expert for their area of responsibility in order to create healthy turnover within the team.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Assurance Leader:

• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Qualifications:

• Graduate or equivalent with extensive experience of working within a regulated industry. Experience in auditing or working within relevant topic areas is preferred. This includes but is not limited to science, engineering, project management/delivery, Finance, procurement, commercial.
• It is required to be either a member, or working towards membership of a professional institution.

Experience:

• Using, implementing or assuring business processes relating to risk management, corporate governance and internal controls.
• Experience of operating, influencing and building effective working relationships with senior management.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and in writing, including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly and influence senior stakeholders up to Board level. This should be supported by strong report writing skills.
• Organisation and planning skills with the ability to deal effectively with both short term and long term work.
• Understanding of internal and external requirements relating to the topic area, including Government Functional Standards as appropriate.

Desirable Criteria for Assurance leader:

• Understanding of risk management and governance best practice.
• Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders including external partnerships with government bodies although support will be provided to build on existing NNL relationships.
• Experience of operating in a project delivery/technical organisation
• Desirable - A member or working towards membership of IIA, ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS or equivalent.

Applicants must posses the following:
* Proven experience in a quality management role within the nuclear sector
* Previous experience working on a nuclear licensed site
* Detailed knowledge of ONR site licence requirements
* Understanding of CDM regulations
* Proven experience on the interpretation and implementation of ISO and regulatory requirements within the nuclear industry
* Proven ability to produce project related Quality Plans, processes and associated quality documents
* Experience of the application of quality and safety requirements, both for Licensee and the global supply chain
* Able to communicate clearly and present in a professional, articulate manner and work effectively in and leading teams
* Internal Auditor qualification, ISO 9001:2015

Candidates would ideally have:
* Lead Auditor qualification - ISO 9001:2015
* Engineering qualification or relevant experience and knowledge of design and engineering methodologies
* Member of Chartered Quality Institute - CQI

Role information:
* To ensure the effective performance of all quality and nuclear safety activities against the compliance requirements of project specifications and standards, and both internal and customer requirements
* Endorse and demonstrate good quality attitudes and behaviours in line with the company policy values
* Promoting nuclear safety awareness and developing a 'Right First Time' culture throughout the project
* Lead and take part in License Condition compliance audits.
* Undertake to correct identified corrective actions were required to maintain or improve compliance and best practice for the company.
* Comply with and support the development and management of the Integrated Management System in accordance with ISO and regulatory requirements
* Responsible for the development, preparation, issue, and control of quality related project documentation
* Manage the internal and supplier audit programme, including conducting internal and supplier audits and assessments, ensuring that relevant quality grades are clearly identified and documented
* Responsibility for delivering QA/QC oversight and assurance arrangements for projects and supply chain
* Ensuring procedures and management processes are maintained in line with all regulatory standards, participate in management assessments and customer feedback. Support / deliver identified corrective actions.
* Management and coordination of the project quality activities in line with project requirements
* Provide guidance and advice to project teams on quality issues
* Encourage learning from experience (LFE) to aid continual improvement
* Ensuring all project documentation is kept up to date in line with overall project status
* Represent quality during attendance at project meetings
* Identify opportunities for improvement and support their pursuance.
* Establishing a good internal working relationship with project personnel at all levels to ensure the effective and efficient completion of all quality related activities and verify both the organisations and customer's quality requirements are clearly understood and communicated
* Support and champion the development and maintenance of a 'Right First Time' approach to project execution and promote an authentic nuclear safety culture across the project and throughout the project supply chain
* Conducting quality compliance checks against ISO and regulatory standards - nuclear and non-nuclear, regular audits/surveillance inspections on project activity both on-site and across the full depth and breadth of the project supply chain, including responsibility for any new supplier audits required for initial supplier assessment and selection purposes.
* Ensure lessons learned are captured and guidance notes produced and distributed across the project and wider organisation and customer network; lessons learned will address both positive and negative learning opportunities
* Manage the capture, collation, and reporting of quality related KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) and provide input as instructed to monthly and ad-hoc management reports
* Review project quality performance on an ongoing basis seeking opportunities for the delivery of continuous improvements.
