The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

As a Front Line Manager you will:

• Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
• Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
• Evaluate work performance of subordinates and makes recommendations for outstanding performance recognition and/or disciplinary action.
• Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
• Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions.
• Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances and/or more serious unresolved complaints as appropriate.
• Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommend other actions in more serious cases.
• Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
• Initiate ways to improve production, work processes and/or to increase the quality of the work directed.

• Provides advice to senior leadership regarding rules of engagement with the media: determining the appropriate set of guidelines for conducting specific briefings and circumstances under which press coverage should be allowed.
• Coordinates preparations for press briefings, press conferences, and press interviews, including logistical arrangements and distribution of written materials to the media.
• Issues press releases, prepares the daily press guidance package, edits transcripts, creates and posts highly curated and concise press guidance/top lines for use by senior Department officials in talking points and explains issues to target groups.
• Monitors ongoing foreign affairs issues and policy developments as they relate to the Department 's public affairs initiative, and advises the Spokesperson, principal Deputies, and the Director accordingly.

This position is located in the Energy Projects section of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). OGC-Energy Projects is looking for junior- to mid-level attorneys with experience in or knowledge of energy and/or environmental law.

As an Attorney-Adviser, some of your typical work assignments may include:

• Drafting legal memoranda and orders addressing energy project development applications;
  Performing legal research and analysis of legal decisions, opinions, rulings, memoranda, and other documents;
• Conducting legal research for authorities and precedent on specific points of law;
  Reviewing environmental documents associated with energy project development applications;
• Providing advice to Commissioners and other senior officials;
  Meeting with project applicants, staff of other federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders.
  Participating in site visits, environmental scoping meetings, and other field activities;
• Interpreting and applying the statutory provisions of the Federal Power Act, Natural Gas Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other laws in orders and memoranda addressing energy project development applications
• Receiving training in Commission law and policy, legal skills, and environmental matters.

As a Physician (Public Health) you will:

• Provide substantial input in the day-to-day technical and scientific planning, implementation, and analysis of the medical aspects of scientific research studies conducted by other scientists.
• Serve as a liaison with other Centers for Disease Control (CDC) organizational units, State and local public health officials, and other federal and non-governmental agencies, to achieve desired public health objectives.
• Oversee and serve as a project lead over EIS Officers, interns, students, and guest researchers assigned and provide consultation and direction on conceptualization, design, implementation, and presentation of the results of epidemiological/evaluation studies and surveillance projects conducted by junior scientists.
• Perform non-clinical duties involving the evaluation of medical research or the identification of causes or sources of disease or disease outbreaks.

• Maintains professional relationships with local media to arrange local news coverage.
• Directs the work activities of employees within the Public Affairs Division.
• Manages advertising programs and budgets for assigned organization.
• Oversees all aspects of Command information, public information, and community relations within the Battalion.

At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

As a Public Health Analyst (Policy) you will:

• Provide leadership, expert technical advice, and coordination in policy research and policy development that will influence public health practice.
• Conduct extensive research and develops subject matter expertise.
• Develop, reports and presentations to inform senior management officials, CDC leadership, HHS, administration officials, and members of the legislative branch.
• Develop reports that reflect an in-depth analysis and interpretation of policy matters involving relevant public health issues.

This position will be located in the Midwest Region which encompasses the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, or Wisconsin. Salary will be based upon duty station and locality pay once selected. The salary above reflects the Rest of US (RUS) pay scale. Locality tables may be found at: 2024 Pay Tables. As a Public Affairs Specialist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Support the Region's efforts to create an accessible and inclusive information and communication technology environment for all audiences in accordance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act to include providing training and/or advising others on Section 508 requirements.
• Develop and execute communication plans by considering such items as specific topics or aspects to emphasize, the most effective media to use in communicating with intended audiences, and the kind of information various groups want or need.

• Plans, coordinates, and facilitates activities intended to provide foreign journalists with direct access to U.S. government civilian and military, commercial, academic, religious, and other kinds of activities.
• Represents the Foreign Press Center at meetings and conferences related to the dissemination of information to foreign media.

The Public Health Program Specialist performs the following major duties:

• Serves as health programming resource in the identification of critical global issues and problems related to project design and implementation.
• Provides advice and guidance to OGHH, PC posts and PC headquarters around community health programs. Gathers technical resources and data to assist on a broad range of projects, activities and programs. Establishes and promotes an understanding of technical issues, as well as associated organizational and community development approaches for the health programs.
• Assists in the development of high quality project / program concepts, proposals and designs. Serves as Agency resource for both headquarters and regional Posts, in the identification of critical public health issues affecting project design, program implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
• Conducts program studies where systems, and processes, definitions, methods, and/or data are incomplete, controversial, or uncertain, or where boundaries of the studies are extremely broad and difficult to determine in advance.
• Works collaboratively with M&E Specialists in OGHH to support programmatic M&E to evaluate program/activity progress and results according to the performance monitoring framework, document results and apply lessons learned to adjust the project framework.
• Coordinates and consults with key stakeholders to facilitate M&E efforts and establish quantitative and qualitative M&E mechanism to measure results and impact of public health programs.
• Presents public health information on M&E results to stakeholders and other consultative forums.
• Designs, develops, and delivers training related to public health. Designs and delivers courses, workshops, and other staff development activities. Plans and develops full-length courses in well-established areas of the subject matter field. Incorporates creativity, innovation, and responsiveness to emerging needs in developing trainings and other knowledge products.
• Consults on original course plan and design for basic course concepts. Responsible for knowledge creation and dissemination of information to develop public health related technical know-how at headquarter and regional posts. Coordinates with program managers and training managers both within the Agency and other external organizations working on this field to develop trainings and course material.
• Designs need assessments to determine content and methodology for workshops or courses for face-to-face or online events.
