The NM will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing. Board certification in OR nursing from a VA-approved certifying body is expected within the first two years of position assumption. NM is the designated first-line supervisory authority on the unit. Is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operations of the unit, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice. As management and leadership skills grow, the NM has the authority to accept, amend, or reject the work of subordinates and has continuing and progressive responsibility for the following functions:

• Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work;
• Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of difficulty, and the requirements of the assignments as well as the capabilities of the subordinates.

The Medicine/Telemetry unit has telemetry monitors for monitoring patients with chest pain or acute myocardial infarction in addition patients with circulatory disorders, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and heart failure are also served. The Medicine/Telemetry unit occasionally cares for patients, who have had surgical interventions but are in the chronic phase of treatment. Registered Nurses partner with LPN's and Nursing Assistants to provide patient and family centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, who support patients and families in decision-making.
