Health Care Assistant - Admissions / Discharge Blakelands Hospital, Milton Keynes Full or part time hours We are currently seeking an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our busy Day Surgery centre. The role will involve admitting patients prior to surgery and assisting with awake patients in recovery and discharge. Healthcare Assistant

Department: Patient Discharge Unit

Band 2: £22,383

Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working



We are looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic individual to join our team.

The unit is open 07:30 am to 8pm Mon-Friday

This challenging role requires excellent interpersonal skills, and someone who thrives in a busy environment. The ability to work under pressure is required.

Nursing care duties

•Assist with patient transfer throughout the hospital

• Liaise with all members of the clinical operations team to ensure the identification and timely transfer of patients from area to area as directed by the senior team.

• Make unoccupied beds

• Help to get patients up, assist with dressing and pack up patient’s property where required

• Wash and bathe patients

• Give attention to oral care, nails and hair as required

• Assist with care of pressure areas

• Prepare meals, snacks and drinks and help feed patients where required.

• Assist patients to the toilet or use of commode.

• Assist in appropriately transferring patients.

• Undertake care of equipment at discretion of nurse in charge.

• Clean and tidy the Patient Discharge unit after discharging patients to maintain infection control standards

• Keep the kitchen, sluice, and store room clean and tidy.

• Respond immediately to patient request, answer telephone and relay information accurately and professionally

• Make patient’s relative welcome to the unit and supply information as directed by the nurse in charge.

• Maintain adequate nutrition by serving meals and drinks regularly and helping with eating and drinking as required.

• Make patients feel secure and cared for by talking to them, listening to their concerns and supporting the family.

• Documenting the care they provide during their stay on the unit.
