WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience (less years required with advanced degrees), with at least 5 years of managerial experience.

General Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform routine duties related to the technical area of assignment and develop, assist, and support Technical Product Specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), and developing engineering modifications for special maintenance projects. Analyze maintenance and general service records to identify bus or rail equipment problems and recommend improvements as required; interface with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, immediate supervisor, upper management, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) subcontractors, and vendors. Recommend system improvements as required.
• Lead the development and review of accident and incident investigations, engineering reports, technical documentation, develop test procedures and pass/fail criteria, data validation, and verification. Recommend methods for streamlining procedures; assist in reviewing trend analysis of substandard or defective systems to isolate the cause(s) associated with failure.
• Write and/or modify maintenance documentation, including but not limited to field modification and maintenance instructions, failure analyses, product test reports, and electrical schematics and drawings. Write documents to support procurement, including but not limited to budgetary estimates, technical specifications, procurement justification memoranda, Statements of Work. Support the development and preparation of the technical requirements within grant application packages.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree (or higher level) college/university program in majoring in Engineering, preferably Software Engineering  or  Computer Science
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
• The skillsets required for this role will vary based on what systems you are working on. To be considered, you should have knowledge and experience in 1 or more of the following categories:
  • Frontend development (Angular, React, Vue, Typescript, etc.)
  • Backend development (C#, .NET, C++, Python, Node, etc.)
  • Data storage and messaging (PostgreSQL, Neo4J, RabbitMq, Kafka, WebSockets, etc.)
  • DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, OpenShift, Jenkins, Terraform, GitLab Runner, etc.)
  • Cloud Systems (Azure, GCP, AWS)
• Must be willing to learn new procedures and applications

The Challenge

Our Overhead Transmission business is in search of a Transmission Design Engineer with PLS-CADD experience to join its team in Irving, TX (remote candidates welcome).

Your Main Objective:

• Develop new, or modify existing: 

• Electrical layout/plan of substation equipment and structures

• Substation foundation layout/plan drawings

• Section/elevation views from layout/plan drawings

• Conduit layout/plan drawings

• Substation grounding layout/plan drawings

• Control building layout/plan and section/elevation drawings

• Develop a complete bill of materials for all required electrical equipment and materials.

• Review and comment on equipment drawings received from vendors and manufacturers.

• Work with other disciplines (e.g., Civil Engineers) as necessary to complete assigned work.

• Assist the project team with developing processes and procedures to increase team efficiency.

• Perform basic engineering calculations to support engineering design

• Apply relevant client, national, and state standards to each assignment as needed.

What Sets You Apart: 

• Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.

• Level 1: 2-4 years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software on electric utility industry projects.

• Level 2: 4-8 years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software on electric utility industry projects.

• A combination of education and a demonstrated related experience may be considered in lieu of education and experience requirements.

• Solid comprehension and application of design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
