BW Flexible Systems (BWFS) is a global industry leader in the design, manufacture, and support of flexible packaging equipment. A trusted partner for our customers, our network provides global technical support for a diverse client base that operates in a variety of market segments including Fresh Produce, Frozen Food, Cheese, Snacks, Pet Food, Animal Feed, and others. Our business, which spans four continents, is supported by five operating sites located in the US (2), the UK, the Netherlands and Italy. Each of these sites includes an Engineering Team.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the President and a member of BWFS’s Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President of Global Engineering will oversee all strategic and operational aspects of the division’s engineering efforts. As the Vice President of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the company. We are looking for a strategic leader with a deep understanding of equipment design, a proven track record of successfully leading engineering/product development teams, driving product development and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions.
The scope of the role has four primary components:
- Project Engineering (Sold Work)
- Innovation
- Application Engineering
- Engineering Excellence/Process Improvement
Job Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the engineering team, aligning technical initiatives with overall business objectives.
- Develop and execute engineering strategies and processes to drive innovation and deliver equipment designs as required to support the business.
- Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to delivery, ensuring delivery of high-quality equipment solutions products, on time and within budget.
- Define optimal engineering organization structure and career progression to support growth and development while promoting global flexibility of the group.
- Build, lead, develop and coach a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements in the packaging equipment sector, to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation.
- Drive research and development initiatives to introduce new features and capabilities in our packaging solutions.
- Collaborate with other department heads, including sales, marketing, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of product development efforts with overall business objectives.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including customers and suppliers, to understand their needs and incorporate feedback into the product development process.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field, with preference for candidates holding an advanced technical degree or MBA.
- 10-15+ years of experience working in global capital equipment, demonstrating leadership in Engineering, including the development and oversight of Engineering programs and processes, and leading innovation/R&D efforts.
- Proven ability to identify areas for improvement within an organization's Engineering function, implementing corrective actions and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Effective leadership skills demonstrated across multiple locations and work groups, including direct leadership and influencing within a multi-functional senior leadership team.
- Strong project management expertise, consistently delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Demonstrated expertise in engineering functions, facilitating the strategic direction for projects and initiatives.
- Proficiency in engineering strategy, including resource allocation, capability development, and operating processes.
- Experience collaborating with multi-functional teams, actively participating as a member of a multi-functional senior leadership team.
Other Requirements:
- Travel by air and car – 30%, including regular international travel.
