The Research Operations Post Award section is responsible for providing overarching support and quality assurance for research, knowledge exchange and expert services Post-Award finance-related activity, including financial management for live grants; provision of live grant information to grant holders and senior management; financial reporting to funders and other external bodies; and support in the management of studentships and grant administration.

You will have the following key responsibilities;

• Line manage a team of 5 Post Award Finance and Project Officers providing advice and guidance on University procedures and pastoral care.


• Provide training to new and existing staff members as appropriate and mentor team members to ensure a thorough understanding of university financial regulations, research related policies and external funders.


• Monitor and coordinate the performance and workload for the Post Award team, planning cover to ensure smooth service provision through peaks and troughs.


• Provide advice, and lead on, complex or high-risk awards.


• Provide a senior check, where appropriate, of the team's work to ensure accurate calculations and reporting. procedures and pastoral care.


• Develop and deliver training sessions to relevant university staff on Post-Award procedures.


• Contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of new policies and quality standards, procedures and systems for the post award management of Durham's externally funded research activities to ensure effective working and continuous improvement.


• Actively participate in regional and national networks and working groups to represent Durham and share best practice across the sector in research project management, ensuring that Durham is actively engaged in relevant consultations and well positioned to understand and, where appropriate, influence funder policy.

The University is currently offering hybrid working, which means you will have flexibility around working arrangements. Currently you would need to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. You can work in the office on additional days of the week if you choose.

Requirements for Senior Project Manager

Its key you have strong leadership skills with experience in strategic planning and mobilisation of large programmes where there were several stakeholders to consider. You must have excellent communication, stakeholder and critical thinking skills and be able to motivate, inspire and influence those around you.

Experience of managing complex programmes, adapting strategies and responding accordingly to emerging issues is required. As an individual you will actively seek new ways of working to improve process'.

You will have experience in successfully delivering outcomes through collaborative, win-win solutions and be able to apply best practice from partners and other sectors.

Its vital you have extensive experience in the relevant investment area and have an in depth understanding of how the water sector works. A high level of financial acumen is required with experience of managing budgets in excess of £100m.

You will have previously built teams where you have embedded cultural and behavioural expectations.

Beneficial experience

It would be great if you had an understanding of OFWAT and the associated regulatory requirements.

Ideally you will possess a Programme Management qualification such as MSP Practitioner and understand project management knowledge areas as detailed in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Fifth Edition.

Information about the Team – This role is within the Strategic Support, Policy and Change Team in HMPPS Wales. This team is part of the Strategic Support Assurance and Administration Directorate. The team has a broad remit that includes change management, business planning, Welsh policy, risk management and leading on the estates strategy.

Overview of the job

Applications are invited for a Business Development, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager on the exciting TechUP project. Ideally, we are seeking applicants with relevant experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders to secure funding, develop collaborative partnerships and develop new TechUP CPD training provision. The post is for a 12 month fixed term period with the possibility of extension and would be an excellent opportunity for a current member of staff seeking professional development as a secondment. The successful candidate will be working under the guidance of Professor Sue Black and Professor Alexandra Cristea and Johanna Waite in the TechUP team and will work closely with the business development team in the Research Innovation Services (RIS) department.

This role is advertised as full time (35hrs) but we will consider applications for 28hrs (4 days) or 31.5hrs (4.5 days).

TechUP specialises in running blended learning training programmes which train individuals from minority groups into entry level tech roles. Developed in collaboration with industry, TechUP programmes include a mix of training in relevant tech skills, one to one mentoring, empowerment and confidence building. Our flexible approach to training ensures that anyone can benefit whatever their learning style and other commitments.

Working closely with industry we custom design the curriculum of each programme and provide networking events, careers fairs and interviews.

This role will be primarily responsible for:

• Securing ongoing funding for future TechUP programmes through grants, industry partnerships, sponsorship and philanthropy working closely with our Resource Innovation Services (RIS) and Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO).
