The National Mathematics College is an elite STEM college which opened in 2016. The College is small in size, with currently about 140 students but big in ambition! We are setup to teach a sixth form curriculum, focusing exclusively on STEM subjects. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The National Mathematics and Science College in this important role. We are looking to appoint a Science Technician for a 12 month fixed term contract in the first instance. As a member of a thriving department, the Technician will play a vital role in providing support for the delivery of the curriculum and management of the Science department’s resources. The role is full time, 40 hours per week, term time only role for a fixed 12 month period in the first instance.Salary: Pro-rata (actual) salary is £21,500-£24,000 per year (depending upon experience).
FTE Salary - £26,600-£29,600Key Responsibilities:
To ensure efficient and prompt preparation and delivery of materials and equipment for lessons, to include setting up hardware and preparation of stock solutions.
To clear equipment and laboratories after each lesson, to include washing up and disposal of hazardous material in accordance with guidelines.
To clean equipment after lessons and assist in dealing with spillages and damage when they occur
To trial practical activities prior to lessons to ensure appropriate results are obtained.
To ensure safe and efficient storage and use of laboratory equipment including simple maintenance where required.
To assist in the delivery of practical demonstrations and to actively assist in class practical activities when requested.
To support students in their investigative and project work including offering advice and hands-on support for related STEM Comm projects.
To ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and to actively raise awareness of Health & Safety issues if they occur, specifically in relation to science.
To follow CLEAPPS guidance and COSHH regulations in relation to laboratory and prep room activities.
To be responsible for ensuring the storage and preparation areas are kept well organised and managed.
To manage departmental equipment and materials as appropriate and ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
To order supplies and equipment on behalf of the Science department from approved suppliers, in co-ordination with the Head of Science (Ops).
To receive and log deliveries and ensure stock logs are kept updated.
