This year, Volvo launched their ‘Women in HGV’ initiative to bust the myth that the automotive sector is just for men and have seen great results in welcoming more women into the business. Start dates are from May to August 2024 What you’ll be learning. A Heavy Vehicle Service Technician will inspect, maintain, and repair large vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and over such as HGV's and buses. • Servicing – carrying out inspections. • Maintenance – general and preventative maintenance. • Repairing – repairing/replacing parts. • Diagnostics – diagnosing faults in the onboard systems. You will gain a full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) licence’s and legal obligations and as a technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard. Training delivery. In this programme, all aspects of heavy vehicle technology are embedded in this dedicated programme and involves a mix of academic learning and on-the-job training. • Practical learning in the workplace, shadowing your mentor and carrying out the work while being supervised. • Online studies, completing workbooks and job cards, attending online sessions and virtual classes with your Development Coach, all done during your working day. • Attending block release to the Volvo Training Academy in Derby, DE21 7BH every 2 months. All costs of your hotel food and accommodation plus all travel arrangements are covered by WW Truck & Bus. The Heavy Vehicle Technicians jobs fall into three main categories: • Servicing – carrying out checks • Maintenance – replacing / repairing engine parts • Diagnostics – using the latest diagnostic equipment As an apprentice, you will observe, learn and gain an understanding of a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff. You will be able to: • Demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team. • Learn and understand the importance of Health and safety within the workplace • Learn the fundamental technologies – Heavy Vehicle chassis design, engine, fuels, transmissions, hydraulic and air braking, etc. • Develop the skills to construct or modify apparatus and instruments from verbal instructions and drawings. • Learn how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good repair.Training to be Provided

This is a Renault Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Manufacturer Apprenticeship programme, delivered by Remit Training. Awarding Body: Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release at Remit’s dedicated Heavy Vehicle Academy in Derby. There are a total of 17 blocks over the 34 month programme, which are split between 2 days of virtual classes and 3 days in Derby. The costs for accommodation, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you. You will also be assigned a dedicated Development Coach who will give you 1-2-1 support and guidance to help you achieve the following IMI qualifications: As a result, you will receive the following qualification: • Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3 • Functional Skills Level 2 in English & Maths (if required)
