As a Practice Development Officer, you’ll make a difference to people’s lives every day. Through our work to date we have identified a strong demand for community-based development and confidence building activities across Scotland. In this varied role you will work with a variety of organisations and services, from schools to NHS services, to third sector services such as homelessness services, foodbanks, community hubs, LGBTQ+ services, carers services, bereavement support and other mental health support services. You will provide and role model a compassionate response to reduce the risk to people who Self-Harm and respond effectively to their distress in a community setting. You will focus on supporting adults who self-harm as well as the organisations who support them across Scotland.

Penumbra has been delivering this service since 2021 and you will play a lead role in sharing the learning from our experience and practice to date and support teams across Scotland to put that learning into practice by working closely with organisations and communities. You will deliver a short-term programme of support including (but not limited to): Self-Harm Awareness Training, Raising awareness of support available in communities and through our online portal, Group work, Staff/Volunteer workshops, Drop-in support sessions and Parent/Carer group sessions.

Since 2016, Penumbra have been providing Peer Support within GP Practices in Angus. In 2020, Angus Health & Social Care commissioned Peer Workers to be based within every GP Practice in Angus. Penumbra currently provide Peer Support to adults over the age of 16, within 6 GP Practices in South Angus.

The Angus Peer service provides the opportunity for anyone over the age of 16 years to speak to a Peer Worker about their mental health challenges and to consider what options they have to help them feel more in control of managing their mental health.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Peer Workers offer authenticity and a unique insight that can enable and empower positive wellbeing. Within this role, the Peer Worker will use their own lived experience of mental health challenges to inspire hope in people who use the service, as well as share coping and self-management techniques.

One to one support will be delivered in GP Practices. There will also be an opportunity within this role to co-facilitate wellbeing workshops.

Driving license and access to car are desirable for local travel within the

Angus area. Role will involve working within South Angus GP Practices with some office-based and home-based working. There may be an exceptional requirement to work evenings or weekends on occasion.

Gilmore HMO (House of multiple occupancy) is a 24hr service which means the role will include a sleepover shift. The service supports six people and also provides outreach support within the local community. The staff work closely with Community Mental Health teams to provide holistic support to meet the needs of the people we support.

Mental Health & Wellbeing teams aim to reduce social isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing. They will provide social, emotional, and practical support and help people engage with other services and local community activities. As a Mental Health & Wellbeing Worker you will provide supported people with recovery focussed support and help them work towards individual goals and outcomes.

This role involves working 5 days out of 7 with a sleepover shift (22:30pm-07:30am) as part of a rolling rota each week. Sleepover shifts are paid at an additional rate of £106.28 per sleepover including holiday pay. There will also be weekend working which is shared within the team as part of the rolling rota.

The service provides proactive support to identify and address an individual’s needs, placing them at the heart of their support. With an emphasis on independence and empowerment, people are helped to move toward self-identified goals. this is at all times focused on improving self-esteem and addressing issues such loneliness, social exclusion, etc.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners will provide guidance, support and supervision to individual Mental Health and Wellbeing Workers and/or Peer Workers. You will work closely with Service Manager to ensure excellent service delivery characterised by choice, compassion, and flexible support.

You will be passionate about working in a person-centred way with adults from a variety of backgrounds, and with a range of challenges. With a strong interest in people and a commitment to helping others, you will strive to make a positive impact on people’s lives and tailor support to enable people to fulfil their best potential.
