Clinical responsibilities To provide general surgical care for the Consultants patients in consultation with the consultants and other medical staff and provide care for all patients when on call. Attend new and follow up general surgery clinics. Participate in weekly multi-disciplinary meetings. Participate in theatre lists for elective and emergency patients. Core responsibilities Communicate and work collaboratively with all members of the surgical team. Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and relatives about all aspects of their clinical care. Always maintain patient confidentiality. Maintain legible and accurate documentation in the clinical records. Governance Assist with quality assurance, audit programmes and managing resources and budgets, when necessary. Engage with the incident reporting system, Datix Assist in development or review of Clinical Guidelines in all areas. Professional Development Identify and maintain support networks and clinical supervision. Be responsible for maintaining personal and professional development. Reflect on own practice and identify any educational or development needs in relation to this role. Ensure that any individual training and educational needs are met to ensure clinical competence and expertise. Comply with Trust Health and Safety policies, including yearly attendance at Fire Safety Lectures and Infection Control training.

Duties of this post To provide, with Consultant supervision, general Paediatric and Neonatal services within George Eliot NHS Trust for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department To undertake General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics and other special interest clinics as appropriate to the skills/interests of the post holder The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients (including activity data as required) in line with Trust On Call Duties To participate in the 1:6 middle grade rota The rota is a combination of long on call days (08.30-21.30), Clinic days and SPA time. To participate in the resident 12 hour shift night rota. These are on weekday nights (21.00-09.00). There is a rest day provided directly before and after each night shift. There are no night shifts routinely on Saturday or Sunday as the consultant team covers them. To perform urgent (acute) Child Safeguarding Medicals when the concern is in the category of physical abuse. The on call Consultant would always be available to support with such cases as needed.

Undertake and documents a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical social and spiritual needs of the patients where appropriate. Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care. Leads a nursing team to manage a group of patients throughout a shift. Ensure that all staff working within the Policies, Procedures of the Trust in line with NMC Guidance Positive attitude to continuing professional education in order to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for safe and effective nursing practice. Maintaining standards by ensuring that evidenced based practice underpins all nursing inventions. Participate in Trust Appraisal system Liaises with Ward/Department Team, other Wards and Departments as appropriate to ensure patients receive optimum care.
