Hays Cairns Construction have partnered with an exceptional council nestled in the heart of Northwest Queensland who are currently seeking a well-versed and enthusiastic Projects Director to join their team in a permanent residential role. This well-regarded Council prides themselves on their innovative and dedicated approach to continuously improving and giving back to the community.
Your new role
Your new role is a pivotal position within the Council, where you will be responsible for leading the delivery of a $35 million Capital Works program. As a direct report to the Chief Executive Officer and a vital member of the executive team, you will ensure the projects are executed with excellence, providing both accountability and visibility to the community.
Strategically plan, develop, and deliver a diverse range of capital works and long-term projects.
Lead and manage both internal and external teams, consultants, and contractors
Establish and enforce project management policies and procedures.
Develop monitoring and reporting systems to maintain project transparency and accountability.
Advise on and implement innovative project management strategies
Ensure all project phases are completed within specifications, minimising disruption to normal business operations.
Lead high-value and complex project coordination and delivery.
Prepare and oversee project budgets, setting financial targets for Capital Works and project delivery.
Engage with key stakeholders to define project scope, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
Build and maintain stakeholder relationships
Direct project teams to deliver services reliably, effectively, and cost-efficiently.

What you'll need to succeed
Degree in engineering, construction, project management, or a related field, or significant relevant experience.
Demonstrated success in managing and delivering large-scale projects
Expertise in developing and implementing best practice processes, procedures, and systems, including KPIs and auditing for performance monitoring and management reporting.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements in the building, construction, and project management sectors.
Strong communication skills
Current Police Clearance
Unrestricted C Class Driver's Licence
Membership in a relevant professional institute (Desirable)
Certified Practicing Project Director Certificate (CPPD) (Desirable)
A Master's degree in Project Management (Desirable)
