- Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities necessary to the overall management of a diverse industrial hygiene, public health, occupational safety, and occupational health program; conducts investigations and sampling of identified hazards of concern, mishaps, public health incidents, and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements. Analyses and prepares written evaluation reports concerning findings and proposed recommendations.
- Prepares supplements to instructions and manuals and develops specialized local instructions defining hazard control and mishap prevention programs and procedures based on interpretation and/or adaptation of higher command instructions and policies formulated by other federal government agencies.
- Reviews plans and specifications for events, new construction, major building alterations, and/or changes in equipment and monitors projects through completion to ensure compliance with industrial hygiene, public health, occupational safety, and occupational health codes and standards.
- Develops and provides technical industrial hygiene, public health, occupational safety, and occupational health training/instruction to supervisors, employees, unit health monitors, unit deployment monitors, and/or unit Bioenvironmental Engineering and Public Health program representatives on a wide range of work operations areas, such as Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Respiratory Protection, OSHA expanded standards, ionizing radiation, lasers, electromagnetic frequencies, noise, public health concerns, bloodborne pathogens, food handling, medical intelligence, thermal stress, and ergonomics.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities for a small subordinate staff, typically 7 or fewer positions.
