One of our 'Good' rated schools are looking to recruit a Science Technician for their highly established Science department to work from November 4th 2024 to December 20th 2024. This role is likely to extend and may also have the opportunity to go permanent from January 2025.
Ideally, looking for a full-time Technician, but the school may also consider part-time
The ideal candidate would be available to start from November 4th 2024 pending compliance & vetting and return of references & DBS
Working Hours -The successful candidate will work from 08:00-16:00, Monday-Friday during term time and all staff training days. Additional days during the school holidays may be required.

Working as a technician in the science department is a rewarding experience that blends technical expertise with a passion for education. In this role, you support teachers by preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring that experiments run smoothly and safely. You also play a crucial part in enhancing students' learning by assisting with hands-on experiments and providing guidance on scientific techniques. The Science Department offers AQA GCSE Science Trilogy and AQA GCSE Triple Science.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will be able to provide technical support, advice and practical assistance to the schools busy Science Department in order to support the effective, consistent and safe teaching of science across biology, chemistry and physics disciplines.
Experience of working in a school environment is desired. The successful candidate will have COSHH and CLEAPSS training as appropriate. You will have a good knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety regulations. First Aid certification would be desirable, though training could be provided for the successful candidate.
You will have a thorough understanding of chemicals and their properties. You will be practical, numerate and well-organised and demonstrate the ability to pay meticulous attention to detail. You will possess good communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within the department as well as on your own initiative, working well under pressure and to tight deadlines, prioritising tasks as necessary. Training in some areas may be available for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will prepare for and lay out the laboratories with the equipment and materials requisitioned for practical exercises, take responsibility for stocktaking and ordering as required; carry out risk assessments for practical and technical activities, run trials of experiments and help to run demonstrations. You will advise with regard to the safety, repair and general maintenance of all resources, tools, equipment and our laboratories in compliance with COSHH, CLEAPSS and other relevant legislation and school documentation.
A working knowledge of, or interest in, science is essential. You will work closely with teachers to provide a dynamic, engaging curriculum.
