Job Overview
The Director of Financial Systems and Processes, in a senior-level position within the University Information Services, provides technical stewardship and strategic leadership for the operations of the University’s core Workday Financials system and technical services - including all configurations, reporting, data security, and system integrations services in Workday Financials, the University’s system of record.
The Director manages the technical and functional resources in each business area: Financial Accounting (GL), Endowment Accounting, Revenue Management, Budgeting, Assets, Expenses, Projects, Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Pre-Award and Post-Award Grants Management; and serves as the primary liaison with the Finance system users. As well, they provide the day-to-day oversight of the configuration, development and maintenance of the Workday Financials system and all integrations to other systems, and implement new functionality as delivered by Workday and in response to university requirements.
The Director plays a crucial role in aligning business processes and administrative systems with the missions of the university, and partners with the business owners across the University to maintain, improve and identify system and process improvements for the financial system, reports and processes. It is essential that the Director understands the future strategy and objectives of the business owners, enabling the development of optimal systems and processes necessary to achieve those goals.
As a leader of the financial systems and processes, the Director has the overall accountability for the strategy, operations, acquisition, contracting, system upgrades, project deliveries, optimization efforts, analytics/reporting, vendor management, and ongoing application support. Their work includes collaborating with vendors and peer institutions as appropriate, as well as developing and deploying the requirements-to-production processes, quality assurance, software release management, and documentation of applications and processes.
The Director oversees the communication and the training program related to Workday Financials functionality; and establishes audit and risk management practices, change management, project management and business continuity planning.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the AVP for ERP Systems, the Director has 5-7 direct reports. They drive efforts to develop and execute strategic plans to transform and evolve the portfolio of Finance applications and technology platforms to anticipate and meet future customer and university needs.
They collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that the technology services and operations meet the demands of the University community; gets buy-in for projects, priorities, and goals; provides strategic direction; and serves as an executive sponsor to mature data governance practices across the university.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or related disciplines, or equivalent experience - preference for a Master’s degree or CPA.
- At least 5 years of increasing senior IT technical and managerial responsibilities – preference for experience in a medium to large technology organization in a university environment
- Broad technology management experience with deep expertise in implementing, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems
- Demonstrable experience in developing and executing IT roadmap and strategy, specifically focusing on Financial administrative systems - e.g., Workday
- Experience supporting or leading implementation of cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system – preference for Workday HCM or Finance
- Experience in the development and maturation of data governance practices across a medium to large organization, preferably in a university environment
- Ability to balance demand for resources among multiple complex simultaneous projects, operational enhancements, break-fix, and maintenance requests
- Ability to develop strategy and resource plans to anticipate demand for implementation services and resource needs
- An understanding and ability to articulate the importance of data analytics and mature data governance practices to the future success of a higher education organization
- Track record of success managing IT projects from an enterprise governance perspective with key stakeholders
- Proven ability to excel working in a complex, decentralized, consensus-driven environment, and to manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to carefully manage resources for maximum return
- Ability to foster and maintain effective working collaborations and partnerships with executive stakeholders across the user community
- Ability to plan, communicate, and get buy-in for projects, priorities and goals
- Ability to motivate staff and actively promote staff development
- Highly effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Excellent listening and problem-solving skills with appreciation for perspectives of others together with the ability to resolve conflicts

Preferred Qualification
Strong functional knowledge of the core Workday Financials product, as well as of Workday reporting, integrations, and security configuration
The expected pay range for this position is $103,723 to $158,000 per annum.
