Job Summary:
Function: Responsible for multiple duties connected to programs of the Riley Institute’s Center for Diversity Strategies (CDS), on campus, across the state, and virtual. Provides administrative supports to other Riley Institute programs, including those of the Center for Critical Issues and Center for Education Policy and Leadership. Supports Riley Institute executive director and deputy director. This is a full-time position that is funded for three years; continuation beyond three years is contingent upon funds availability.

Center for Diversity Strategies
Supports recruitment of 160+ annual participants in the South Carolina Diversity Leaders Initiative (SC DLI).
Supports convenings of SC DLI classes, currently comprising four cohorts, 20 class days and 160+ participants annually.
Supports recruitment for and online delivery of SC DLI graduate offerings and industry-focused national DLI programs.
Supports Upstate Diversity Leaders Awards event and Lowcountry Diversity Leaders Awards events.
Works with CDS director to conceive and undertake SC DLI alumni engagement program.
Supports CDS marketing and communications efforts, including web, social, print, media, and email.
Collects information for, creates and distributes Riley Fellows bulletin.
Manages DLI collateral, supply and print inventories and needs.
Maintains contact database for all participants in CDS programming.
Manages hotel and travel arrangements for CDS staff as necessary.
Oversees CDS students interns.
Supports Riley Institute general administrative needs, including front desk; travel and calendar supports for Institute leadership; supplies; maintenance of supply room and conference room; staff hardware and software purchases; onboards new staff; etc.
Supports the Center for Critical Issues, including lists of invitees and RSVPS; event collateral production; become certified van driver to transport students; support speakers’ visits and travel reimbursements; support Advance Team, Advantage Scholars program, and APEC program; serve as a member of the Riley Institute event production team.
Supports the Center for Education Policy and Leadership, including the South Carolina Afterschool Leaders Empowered program, the White-Riley-Peterson program, and the Riley Institute director of public education programs and partnerships as needed.
Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Relationships: Director, Riley Institute Center for Diversity Strategies; Riley Institute executive director and director; other Riley Institute staff and Furman staff and faculty; Riley Institute constituents; Furman students.
Reports To: Director, Riley Institute Center for Diversity Strategies, with a dotted line to Riley Institute deputy director.
Responsibility for final decisions: Responsible for complex tasks. May supervise, assist or instruct others doing similar work; including student workers. Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves devising solutions to logistical and organizational challenges, as well as choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures. Errors may be detected within the department or section in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and make corrections.
Education/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred, plus three years professional experience in a relevant setting.
Word, Excel and Mail Chimp or other email marketing platform.
Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage time and effectively switch from task to task in a fast-moving environment; ability to take initiative and work independently.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and desire to support a culture of shared success.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Experience with editing and copywriting preferred.
Work Conditions:
Work is performed under usual office conditions. Occasional evening work required with events; occasional out-of-town meetings.
