Position Summary:
The Assistant Professor in Teacher Education will be responsible for teaching, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Assistant Professors will also be expected to provide service on department and college committees and engage in department and college-wide recruitment and retention activities. Assistant Professors are also required to establish a research agenda consistent with the mission of the Teacher Education Department. Course load will include (typically) 3-credit courses for a standard teaching load of 24 credits per year (which may also include School Based Field Experience courses where the instructor is responsible for organizing and coordinating school-based field experiences in collaboration with local schools).

Major Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses (Including Elementary Science and Literacy Methods) in the Teacher Education Department comparable to 24 credit hours per year to include some credits each semester for student advising and mentoring, and field-based coordination
- Mentor undergraduate students pursuing career interests in the educational field, including supervising student teaching
- Mentor and advise graduate students in career interests and supporting graduate research projects
- Perform service activities such as engaging in department and college committees, recruitment and retention activities
- Pursuing research and grant opportunities and performing regional professional development activities with local schools
- Optional Summer employment to teach courses or oversee internships
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD or EdD or ABD in Education, Curriculum, or closely related field of study
- ABD candidates with significant work experience will be considered with the understanding that they complete their degree within one year of accepting the position
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in K12 Schools
- Experience working with diverse students, using distance learning technology, and/or building relationships in rural settings
- Candidate’s research agenda and teaching philosophy should demonstrate clear commitment to innovative teaching and learning, and equity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or expertise teaching elementary students, including STEM content areas and literacy
- Experience teaching in higher education in undergraduate and/or graduate programs
- Experience teaching online and hybrid courses and/or use of a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard etc.)
- Experience in grant writing and management and/or program development and evaluation (assessment)
- Experience in providing professional development in K12 Schools and/or higher education or community-based projects

Compensation
