This role is key for BCA Logistics (BCAL) and will work as part of the central Decision Intelligence function, within the Analysis and Insights team.
As a Lead DA, you will work collaboratively with other data analysts whilst working directly with BCAL, providing Operational efficiency, quality and planning insights. You will lead a team of highly skilled analysts who deliver business intelligence and insight to drive better decision making and identify opportunities for growth and efficiency within BCAL, all of which will give BCAL a genuine advantage in the marketplace.
You will be supported by other central shared teams within Decision Intelligence - Data Engineering, Data Science, Reporting Services and Data Partnerships teams, who provide common analysis framework and standards to ensure that analysis and reporting is consistent and optimises available resources and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute strategic analysis projects, identifying key recommendations to stakeholders while demonstrating best practice analysis skills to the team
Day to Day to leadership of a team of data analysts
Ensure the team build good relationships with key stakeholders so that they build their knowledge and understanding of key opportunities and objectives ensuring that the data analysts are meeting these
Through analysis and reporting, ensure the team pro-actively share insights with stakeholders that require further investigation and/or will unlock commercial benefit for BCAL
Foster a strong sense of team, encourage sharing of best practice, ensuring analysts support each other in meeting business and team objectives
Support the team in managing priorities, ensuring that analysts are focusing on those challenges where they can have the greatest impact
Build a support and training plan for each analyst so that each team member can fulfil their potential
Build strong relationships with commercial stakeholders to gain a sound knowledge of the BCAL business, including challenges and opportunities
Work with the Head of Data Analysis & Insights to prioritise workload in conjunction with senior BCAL Stakeholders on an ongoing basis, ensuring that ad-hoc requests and additional projects are prioritised and managed appropriately and clearly communicated across the business.
Is a trusted expert and go-to person within BCAL for all data analysis requests aided by building a deep understanding of the evolving data sets, data structures and metrics that support all reporting and analysis
Supports Senior BCAL Stakeholders to assess and evolve the reporting suite structure for the BCAL team, selecting the appropriate tools and mechanisms for report distribution, developing new and/or refining existing reporting and, through monitoring, ensure stakeholders’ tools are fit for purpose and support decision making.
Support the development of data literacy skills for the BCAL team, in particular helping promote the use of Power BI
Support Head of Data Analysis & Insights in meeting department Goals & Objectives - Create, plan, propose & agree objectives for the financial year for team members. Set aside time for meeting the A&I objectives and participate in reviews.
Takes ownership of their own continuous professional development & keep up with rapidly changing data industry trends.
Key Skills
Strong experience of leading, motivating and coaching a team of data analysts
Strong expertise in building relationships with stakeholders and understanding business needs and planning & prioritising work accordingly.
Advanced analytical skills with experience of using a range of data analysis and statistical techniques to address business challenges
Proven ability to deliver business impact through data analysis
Is persuasive in telling stories with data and can make the complex simple
Experience in working with a variety in the quality of datasets.
Experience of using SQL to extract data for analysis
Experience of using modern data tools like Power BI, Power Automate, Python
Excellent communication skills, including the confidence to present to senior managers
Self-starter, can adopt a pro-active approach and take initiative with minimal supervision
