Press Content Development
- Writes, publishes, reviews, and measures the success of press releases on AmeriCorps.gov (Drupal), advisories, social media, and other relevant materials, aligning plans with agency goals and objectives as directed by the Press Secretary.
- Writes briefing memos for senior leaders for upcoming interviews. Contributes to the strategic development and production of media materials.
- Provides CEO and senior leadership with regular updates on press activity, press production, crisis response, and CEO social media.
- Organizes the press editorial calendar.
- Consults with managers and specialists in the Office of Communications and Marketing to provide media expertise, strategic direction and approaches, and assistance with other mission-related tasks.
- Stays abreast of the latest trends for effective media relations and communication to targeted audiences, focusing on strategies to increase visibility for the work supported by AmeriCorps.
Media Outreach and Monitoring - Manages day-to-day press and media outreach to cultivate and sustain partnerships, including managing the press inbox, responding to inquiries, and scheduling and staffing leaders for interviews.
- Coordinates media and public affairs requests, including interviews and filming inquiries.
- Monitors and reviews all media coverage and public engagement events which includes occasional weekend and evening support for senior leadership when there are interviews, media events or press conferences.
- Cultivates relationships with media representatives, bookers, and outlets, proactively seeking out new media partnership opportunities.
- Strategically pitches agency or program-specific stories to TV, radio, print news outlets and journalists that result in media coverage. Implements policies and procedures outlined by the Press Secretary for media relations activities, including maintaining current media contact lists in agency CRM and media monitoring tool (Meltwater).
- Supports the Press Secretary in managing the public face of AmeriCorps, ensuring that the agency brand is represented consistently and correctly across all media outlets.
- Serves as on-the-record spokesperson for the agency in the absence of the Press Secretary. Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTORS Occasional travel is required 4-6 times per year as needed.
A valid state driver's license is required to drive a government vehicle.
