About the role:
Alcoa is seeking a Materials Planner to join our team at the Massena location, specifically within the Planning / Scheduling team.
The primary function of this position is to assist in the efficient and effective execution of daily, weekly & monthly electrical maintenance activities. You will be responsible for preparing descriptive work instructions, developing and updating work packs, providing advice and direction during the execution of the activities and following up on costing and history recording at the completion of the activities.
This person will also apply the REX (Reliability) standard work management process (Reliability) as well as maximize the use and implementation of the REX (Reliability) tools at Massena. This person will also be responsible to participate in weekly activity reviews to seek methods and techniques to improve & update Standard Work Instructions for maintenance activities.
The key responsibilities are:
- Provides support to the Maintenance crafts personnel via weekly plans, clearly defining job work scopes, developing work packs to support the REX standard and work towards REX (Reliability) target State. Ensure continual improvement of maintenance processes through the review & upgrading of existing work packs.
- Responsible for ensuring that the material management REX (Reliability) standard is followed including the Kitting process. All necessary correct spare parts required are procured and pre-positioned prior to commencement of the activity and unused parts are returned to the store at the completion of the activity as per the RIMS process, liaise with other functions such as the expediter. A critical component for the efficient execution of maintenance activities is through a good understanding of equipment and ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Contributes to the efficient execution of maintenance activities by ensuring that all necessary labor, tools, parts, equipment and specialist devices are organized in advance and available when required. Applying the full suite of REX (Reliability) tools and observing the principles of continuous improvements in EAM.
- Contributes to a high level of motivation, efficiency and safety in relation to electrical maintenance work by ensuring that all production and maintenance personnel involved are aware of the activity details, preparation work being carried out and the sequence of events, timings and responsibilities during the actual execution of the activity. This includes ensuring that any changes to the scheduled activities are communicated to all relevant personnel as early as possible utilizing the REX (Reliability)suit of tools to execute this process and maintaining eAM as well as updating all visual management boards updated accordingly.
- Minimizes operating and maintenance costs of equipment by identifying and highlighting improvement opportunities and initiating action where appropriate. This may include identifying deficiencies in spare parts stock holdings, updating computerized eAM bill of materials and work packs, use of the work pack tools and initiating appropriate corrective actions including ARD’s, slow moving stock reviews, stock criticality ratings.
- Ensures that repairable items are tracked through the RIMS repairable system to maintain the required stock levels for these critical items. This is inclusive of ensuring appropriate transport of repairable items to & from the job site, in keeping with the Centralized Operations workshops, Departments, Site and warehouse operations to ensure lead times for spares is appropriate for the maintenance activity and are managed by the REX Material Checker.
- Connect with Asset planner, Expeditor and MLO daily to support Maintenance processes, Work execution & closure process.
- Required to fill vacation vacancy within the material planner / asset planner roles.

- Previous experience in maintenance (electrical) or electrical planning, preferably in the heavy industry setting or utility industry.
- Proven track record of success in planning and execution
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to write standard job work instruction(s) packages
- Proficient at reading technical blueprints /drawings
- Advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Results oriented when given a task or project.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt and be resourceful in the face of challenges.
- Able to plan, prioritize work with a complex schedule of events and activities
Qualifications
- A Combination of AS or BS Degree or experience adding up to 5 years in a maintenance or technical role. For example: A BS degree and 1 year experience, an AS and 2-3 years experience or no advanced degree and 5 years experience.
- Strong Electrical expertise preferred
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Base salary: $76,000 - $105,000 USD annually
Total rewards packages listed, including base salary and bonus eligibility, applies to US based applicants only. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on a range of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies in conjunction with multiple components of the Employee Total Rewards Package. Alcoa reserves the right to change plans at its discretion.
