Job Title: Hatchery Processing 1 Job Grade: 08
FLSA Status: Nonexempt Position reports to: As't Hatchery Mgr Location: Wadesboro Hatchery
Schedule: Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule. Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday including holidays, beginning at 6:45AM until job is complete. Typically these positions average 35 hours a week. Hours are subject to change depending on needs of the hatchery.
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the processing of all chickens including grading, vaccination, and toe trimming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Place hatching eggs in properly labeled buggies. (15%)
- Process chicks including: grade, vaccinate (operate robot), weigh chicks and perform toe trim. (70%)
- Prepare chick boxes, count by-products. (5%)
- Operate macerator. (5%)
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Operate a high pressure and regular water hose, make and cut vitamin gel, maintain a clean and organized work area. (5%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety Requirements:
- The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
- TSA: Must agree to submit to a Security Threat Assessment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly push or pull chick boxes weighing up to 125 lbs. must lift chick boxes weighing up to 30 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend over; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
- Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required when handling chemicals. Ear plugs and ear muffs will be used as needed.
- Chemicals Commonly Used: Formaldehyde is in use at the facility, disinfectant, lubricants and virocid.
- Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
General Sign Off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies. Failure to perform this job to above standards could lead to progressive discipline up to and including termination. Priority consideration will be provided to internal applicants first. Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred. Applicants must reside within the United States to be considered for an in–person interview. Qualified applicants must have at least 12 months consecutive work experience with one employer over the past three years with no gaps in employment of over six months. (Exceptions are made for layoffs, attending school, birth of a child, or elder care.) Work history will not apply to applicants when they have been FULL TIME STUDENTS consecutively for the last 36 months.
Starting Wage:$16.00 / HourPlus, additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends.
