FUNCTION:
Documents, visualizes, and articulates the value chains, technical health, and current/target states of one or more domains in collaboration with technology leadership. Develops roadmaps alongside product owners and technology teams - incorporating industry trends, best practices, and personal insights while connecting them with the broader Enterprise Technology landscape ensuring alignment to technology strategies, standards, and policies.
This Enterprise Architect position will support the Finance Technology Director in leading one of the largest transformation programs at the bank. M&T’s Finance Division has kicked-off a multi-year Technology Modernization program (leveraging tech from Oracle, Snowflake, SAP, and Workday) focused on advancing business agility for a twenty-first century bank. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to establish deep partnerships, transform entire ecosystems, and ultimately drive substantial outcomes. We are building Finance capabilities to support business growth needs, meet our external reporting responsibilities, and promote advanced collaboration with a focus on impact across the entire organization. Additionally, this EA role will support the technology teams for Regulatory Reporting, Corporate Services, and Human Resources.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leverage expertise in technical and business strategy development to support domain leadership in strategic decision making.
- Provide consultation services to domain leadership to improve technology delivery and operational efficiency.
- Provide thought leadership and build strong stakeholder partnerships to articulate current state, target state, and domain roadmap.
- Ensure all architecture domains (business, application, information/data, cloud/infrastructure, security) are considered during solution procurement and/or design.
- Collaborate with delivery teams and domain leadership in preparation for executive leadership, architectural peer group, and architecture review board meetings.
- Research, understand, and apply existing/new/emerging technologies and trends to determine their potential impact on technology domains.
- Translate the enterprise's technology future-state architecture vision into principles, guidelines, standards, and patterns to ensure alignment with broader strategic goals.
- Identify opportunities and approaches for solving domain problems from a broad enterprise perspective that may include new products, new platforms, or system enhancements for Agile teams and domain leadership to help promote the reuse of existing technical investments and capabilities.
- Create and maintain reference materials for use by the technical delivery team to ensure consistent and compliant solutions for enterprise level architecture patterns.
- Participate in the planning and design of strategic initiatives that require architecture guidance.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position will interface with senior leaders, and will require excellent communication skills along with basic knowledge of new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of those trends for strategic use.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 year's higher education and/or relevant work experience
- 7 or more years of experience in developing and integrating applications using relevant software architecture principles and patterns
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting, core finance terms, data mapping and movement across the organization (Finance)
- Knowledge of financial systems, e.g., Oracle, Workday, or similar
- Working knowledge of architecture diagramming practices, architectural frameworks, and/or enterprise architecture tools
- Work experience in software engineering, software delivery and/or solution architecture
- Experience in driving and delivering innovation within the realm of Corporate Finance, Regulatory Reporting, Corporate Services and Human Resources
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Graduate degree in business or technical discipline
- Certification and experience working with Cloud technologies and vendors
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Certification in enterprise architecture frameworks
- Experience working in the financial services industry
- Experience working in two or more technical roles related to banking technology

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $130,795.52 - $217,992.53 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
