The successful candidates will have an interest in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards.  Distribution systems may be in an OH, UG, or URD environment.  

Project work may include joint use make ready, and street light projects.  Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. Assignments may also include: preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements or calculating a customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).  

Senior Distribution Designer Responsibilities:

• Design and construction work package development of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (operating from 4kV through 138kV), mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.    
• Comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget.

Senior Distribution Designer Required Education & Experience:

• BS Degree and 4-8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2-6 years of prior relevant experience.  Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Experience with ESRI, AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus   
• Familiarity with Pole Loading software ( O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman) and SAP
• Proven ability to communicate with clients and project teams 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with projects in distribution design: using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects

Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Transmission & Distribution Construction Manager who will work alongside management, construction crews and lead engineers for various clients within the electric power delivery industry that has EPC/Design Build project construction management experience in the northeast/New England region of the country.

The Construction Manager will be part of an established Project Management Office within the PDS Division that provides consulting services to both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. These consulting services provide clients with overall project management tasks in the areas of comprehensive engineering design of electrical transmission and distribution, substation and transmission line projects nationwide.

Construction Manager Travel Requirements:

• Expect up to 100% travel to local and regional work sites

Responsibilities:

• Manage the overall construction activities on assigned projects, including but not limited to material management, construction (EPC) and logistics efforts for a large scaled program consisting of multiple EPC/Design Build and Logistics contractors for an investor-owned electric utility in north-eastern United States.
• Responsible for the development of and/or review of construction plans, outage coordination, commissioning planning and safety planning.
• Interfaces directly with the client to report progress, costs, schedule and risks across a portfolio of transmission and distribution project.
• Interfaces with multiple Project Managers, schedulers, project controllers and engineers that oversee direct assigned work to general and logistics contractors.
• Conducts on site construction management briefings and prepare reports reflecting project status, schedule and project uncertainties.
• Consistently communicate and work with ease across multiple program and function support areas including: client, EPC project teams, functional leadership, subcontractors, and support personnel.
• Ensures compliance with utility client standards and processes.
• Responsible for contractor evaluations, project reconciliations and close out activities following completion of projects.
• Oversee various and specific proposal development efforts that accurately defines the project scope, schedule and budgets.
• May be required to work extended work hours during certain phases of construction efforts and as project requirements may dictate.
• Provide storm outage support (emergency response planning).
• Write comprehensive and technical and project reports 

Background Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business; Relevant experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
• Demonstrated experience in construction operations for electrical projects
• Experience with high-voltage overhead and underground transmission & distribution lines
• Must demonstrate expertise in recent electric power infrastructure projects with expert knowledge in managing large scaled Transmission and Distribution Programs.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
• Local & Regional travel are required, so candidates must possess a Valid US Driver's License

• Create relay settings for various distribution voltages (4kV and 34.5), including set points, logic diagrams, configuration files, and documentation.
• Conduct system protection and coordination studies for distributed energy resources and distribution automation schemes.
• Offer guidance and recommendations on system protection philosophies and standards to clients
• Apply system protection engineering principles in various areas, such as distribution lines, transformers, capacitor banks, and more
• Conduct system modeling and fault analysis for relay device coordination.
• Review protective relay operations, identify system disturbances, and provide resolutions to operational control problems.
• Assess data and model quality, identifying necessary corrections or enhancements for successful coordination between protective devices.

What Sets you Apart:

• Mid-Level - Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with two (2+) years of related experience.
• Senior Level - Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) four (4+) years of related experience.
• Strong foundation and technical knowledge in distribution power systems, distribution planning, and system protection strategies. Additional preference for experience with Distributed Energy Resources.
• Main requirement is experience with device coordination, creating relay settings and logic diagrams for distribution devices.
• Capable of using CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, EasyPower, LightTable and/or other distribution power for coordination studies and fault study analysis. Additional preference will be given if experienced with Aspen OneLiner and/or Electrocon CAPE.
• Experience with the development of relay settings for microprocessor relays including: SEL, Alstom, GE, ABB and others for distribution protection system. Additional preference will be given if experienced with the transmission system.
• Preferred if experienced with self-healing networks, FLISR schemes, etc.
• Preferred proficiency in substation and distribution protection and control design and industry standards.
• Knowledge of NERC PRC standards for compliance and familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
• Experience implementing control and protection schemes, including interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams and preparing relay logic to complete the schemes.
• Experience with communication devices HMI, SCADA and RTU
• Experience with implementation of different communication protocols (example: DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850 MMS and GOOSE.
• Strong engineering and interpersonal skills and high attention to detail with a passion for quality.

Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Designers to work out of our Framingham office.  This role has the potential to be hybrid (in office 2-3 times per week)

Successful Distribution Designer candidates will have interest in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards.  Distribution systems may be in an OH, UG, or URD environment.  Project work may include joint use make ready, and street light projects.  Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. Project work will require performing engineering calculations that may include:  structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.  Assignments may also include: preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements or calculating a customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).  

Associate Distribution Designer Responsibilities:

• Design and construction work package development of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (operating from 4kV through 138kV), mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.    
• Comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget.
• Field pole locations and take detailed notes on existing conditions. Fielding equipment to be provided and mileage is reimbursable.

Associate Distribution Designer Required Education & Experience:

• HS degree with less than 2 years of experience.  
• Currently enrolled in a 2 year technical/ engineering program
• Relevant knowledge in the power field/ industry
• Ability to communicate with clients and project teams at a high quality level
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Problem solving skills and resourcefulness
• Experience in performing tasks based off a scope, schedule, and budget

Preferred experience:

• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus   
• Background working with a utility performing design work.
• Familiarity with Pole Loading software ( O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman) and SAP
• Experience with projects in distribution design: using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects
• Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments
