A top performing Foundation Trust and teaching hospital, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Surgery Research Department.

The successful candidate will be expected to register for a higher degree with the University of Nottingham. Duties will also include participation in the StR level on call rota and some commitments to teaching of clinical medical students from the University of Nottingham.

Post to commence in February 2025.

The post holder will be involved as part of the research group investigating various hypotheses as part of the ongoing clinical research in the department. It is required that the post holder will register for a higher degree with the University of Nottingham. You will also be expected to provide teaching and participate in the general surgery emergency rota

The successful post holder will have MBBS or equivalent qualification, be GMC registered at the time of application and be able to reside and work in the UK. You should be competent in conducting operative procedures at ST3 level and above and ideally be able to demonstrate previously involvement in teaching, presentations and publications.

The new Band 6 Clinical Research Practitioner / Research Nurse / Allied Health Professional (AHP) will join our dynamic R&D department at CLCH and be part of a dedicated research delivery team of Research Nurses and Clinical Research Practitioners. The aim of the role of the Band 6 Clinical Research Practitioner / Research Nurse / AHP is to enhance the overall delivery of clinical research within the Trust by providing support to the Senior Clinical Research Practitioner and Research and Development (R&D) management by assisting with clinical and administrative activities related to research, e. g., clinical trials, from initiation to termination, in accordance with ICH-Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guidelines, national legislation and local policies.

The post holder will be responsible for:

Setting-up, maintaining and closing clinical studies, in accordance with local, national and international legislation within various clinical areas.

Aassessing patients’ suitability, ensuring informed consent is obtained, coordinating the logistics for patient visits, and undertaking patient assessments in accordance with study protocol.

Clinical and research data recording and reporting, including adverse and serious adverse events, in accordance with ICH-GCP and Trust policies.

Ensuring studies are delivered in line with agreed targets.

Assisting the R&D management in growing study portfolio and research culture across Trust Divisions.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Research Nurse to join our research delivery team to support the growing portfolio of research studies undertaken by the research team at UHDB. The post will suit a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative individuals looking to further their career in research.

The post holder will be working with a renowned multidisciplinary team in various areas. You will manage your own caseload of patients on clinical trials with the support of the wider research and clinical team.

You will be expected to deputise in the absence of the Senior Research Nurse as required. Previous clinical research experience with drug and commercial trials is desirable, however training is offered.

Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent, you will work within the guidelines and policies for the conduct of clinical trials, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with the principles of GCP.

The successful applicant should have a flexible approach and the ability to work both as part of the team and independently. In addition, excellent communication, administrative and IT skills and being supportive and open to new initiatives are valued by the team.

The post holder will support trials from set up to close and will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical trials. This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data.

You will be working closely with principal investigators and members of the multidisciplinary team, and will support patients who choose to participate in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients' advocate.

An important aspect of the role is the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of data derived from the research studies. The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

You will have an excellent range of clinical skills and can demonstrate significant knowledge and some experience of supporting clinical research in a hospital setting.

Proven recent experience of coordinating/supporting complex research studies and using the study intensity tool to manage workload is required for the post.

You will be an effective communicator who can work well both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team, with excellent attention to detail.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide technical support and data handling for the research being conducted at SRUC’s Dairy Research & Innovation Centre in Dumfries. The successful candidate will have relevant technical experience in cattle husbandry, operation of specialist farm recording equipment and farm data handling. Experience of recording and sample collection for scientific research would be beneficial.

Key areas of work of this Technician post will include:

• Liaising with research staff, external project partners and farm staff to co-ordinate research activity
  
• Collecting project data, data entry and database uploads, ensuring all data meets QA standards
  
• Control and maintenance of research facilities and equipment, including for sampling, sample preparation, processing and analyses e.g., intake feed bins, calf feeder units, cattle shedder, Greenfeed systems
  
• Use recording technologies (e.g. animal-mounted and fixed-platform sensors, performance monitoring equipment)
  
• Collection, handling and processing of trial samples, arranging for analysis or transport to relevant partners or laboratories
  
• Maintaining accurate records for ongoing research trials
  
• Maintaining consumable stocks related to sample collection or liaising with equipment companies for maintenance and repair
  
• Assisting with support for students involved in practical training
  

  Minimum Qualifications:

  The ideal candidate should be educated to SCQF Level 7 or above.
