About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) archive and library collection contains around 7 million items and is of outstanding national and international significance. This is an exciting time for SMG's Archives and Libraries with our new strategy setting out how our collections will be the best in the world in our fields. We are committed to documenting our collections, making them available to more people than ever before and transforming customer service.
SMG have recently received a generous grant from the Foundation for Integrated Transport, in memory of Simon Norton. As a result of this we can unlock and promote the unique, historic record of Campaign for Better Transport for researchers, campaigners, academics and Science Museum Group visitors.
About the role
This role is a full-time (35 hours per week) role on a fixed-term contract for 6 months. Based at the National Railway Museum in York.
As Archive Cataloguer you will create a searchable online catalogue of over 120 boxes worth of documentation, organise the digitisation selected items from the archive, making them available online. You will work with internal departments to preserve fragile digital and paper material and with Campaign for Better Transport to communicate the power of the archive to key stakeholders and interested communities.
About you
Joining us, you will have relevant experience with Archives or Records Management and experience handling, storing and documenting archive collections. You will be able to embrace our commitment to making archive collections accessible to diverse audiences.
Crucially, you will be organised with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively with the ability to complete tasks with accuracy and a good level of attention to detail. You will also be an effective communicator, be able to communicate confidently to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and supervise volunteers.
