This Graduate Science Teaching Assistant role will see the successful candidate joining a supportive Science department and supporting the teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4. The school have identified several students across the age range who require extra motivation and support and are looking for a Science Graduate to support these students. You will be working directly with the Head of Science, who will be utilising your specialist degree knowledge to support with pupils across Key Stage 3, 4 & 5. This Science Teaching Assistant vacancy will see the successful graduate working on a 1:1 and small group intervention basis to improve their attainment and progress.

The school are keen to meet a Science Graduate who has a great academic record including at least a 2.1 in their degree. The successful Science Teaching Assistant will possess the personality and work-ethic that sees them establish themselves as a role model to students. For this graduate Science Tutor position, previous experience supporting students academically or in more informal settings is highly advantageous.

The Role

Comprising around twenty people, the Research Information Service is a team of highly skilled information professionals who connect the wider Research and Information research community with the resources (physical, digital and human) they need to complete their work. The Senior Research Librarian will work closely with the Head of Service to ensure high quality service delivery in line with strategic goals and take responsibility for a range of projects.

Line management and a coaching approach are essential to this role. The postholder will be responsible for the direct line management of a group of Research Librarians in addition to deputising for the Head of Service in their absence.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

• Oversight of the daily operations of the department, deputising for the Head of Service in their absence and at other times as necessary.
• Acting as Senior Records Officer for the wider team, ensuring that information is maintained, accessible and archived in accordance with local policy.
• Liaison with internal colleagues on matters where Research Information Service is involved, including participation in working groups and committees as needed.
• Taking the lead on specific projects including delivering services and contributions to events.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

• You will hold a CILIP-accredited degree level Library or Information Management qualification or actively seeking to obtain such a qualification.
• You meet the key information needs of your customers by showing an aptitude for enquiry work using a range of information resources and tools, including using SharePoint and other tools to organise and retrieve digital information.
• You have the ability to lead and motivate colleagues and foster a supportive work environment.

As a Manager, Tissue Diagnostics Science you will use your knowledge of tissue based diagnostic assays including immuno-histochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH) and other ground breaking technologies and approaches (multiplexing, multi-immunofluorescence, Digital pathology and artificial intelligence etc.) to provide scientific and technical expertise to deliver innovative tissue diagnostic approaches to AstraZeneca's clinical portfolio, through strategic partnerships with leading diagnostic companies.

If successful, you would be part of multidisciplinary teams implementing and delivering diagnostic tests to match the right patients to the right drugs. Specifically, you would be:

• Delivering diagnostic testing to clinical studies as agreed with project leaders including tissue (IHC, ISH assays) diagnostic test establishment in partner laboratories, establish innovative diagnostic tests (e.g. tests relying on machine learning/AI), monitor diagnostic test data for quality control, provide scientific troubleshooting when necessary and preparation of study reports with presentation at appropriate meetings.
• Accountable for the operational, scientific and regulatory aspects of establishing and controlling diagnostic tests used to identify patients who are eligible to enter drug clinical trials.
• Performing technical due diligence of potential external partners (e.g. start-up companies, diagnostic manufacturers, laboratories) in scientific area(s) of expertise.
• Leading projects across internal and external partners in a global multi-disciplinary environment, applying scientific, technical and operational expertise.
• Accountable to scout and evaluate emerging technologies in your area of expertise aligned with mid and long term strategic priorities of Precision Medicine.
• Identify opportunities, propose solutions and work across boundaries in the scientific area(s) of expertise that will enable drug development projects and diagnostics labelling.
• Generating scientific evidence from a variety of data-types (e.g. images, real-world evidence, clinical trial data) to enable companion diagnostic test selection, regulatory submissions and diagnostic test life-cycle management.
• Delivering diagnostic data work packages to enable regulatory submission and approval inclusive of studies to enable market adoption and life cycle management, including statistical data analysis.
• Building and maintaining a knowledge of current and emerging diagnostic technologies in area of expertise.
• Accountable for the delivery of scientific evidence enabling the development of new diagnostic tests, their regulatory submissions and commercial launches.
• Driving continuous improvement in the scientific area(s) of expertise, aligned to Precision Medicine strategic objectives of increasing project success, adding value to projects and delivering better medicines to patients.
• Being accountable for the time and quality of agreed work.
• Providing updates on the progress, risks and opportunities of the agreed work to the appropriate governance bodies for review, challenge and issue resolution.

Essential Minimum

• BSc or equivalent experience in relevant subject
• Experience of working in collaborative or multi-functional initiatives
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of tissue-based biomarker assays, such as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and/or in situ hybridisation (ISH), including troubleshooting and QC
• Operational experience of clinical trial set up, documentation and QC / monitoring of tissue testing

Desirable

• Advance degree or equivalent experience in a relevant area
• An understanding of clinical and diagnostic development and commercialisation.
• Knowledge of clinical testing procedures and applicable laboratory testing regulations such as Good Clinical Practice, CAP/CLIA, Good Clinical Practice and Quality Systems Regulation.

The Social & General Statistics Section provides research and briefings on a wide range of statistics including population, housing, health, social security, social services, education, crime and justice, elections, transport, pensions, energy and the environment.

The Role

The core work of this role involves providing briefings for MPs and their staff on statistics in one or more of the areas covered by the Section. These can be one-off answers to specific requests from MPs and their staff or contributions to our published outputs on legislation and topical issues. Often this work is carried out jointly with policy and legal specialist colleagues.

This vacancy is to replace one our researchers who covered statistics on elections and parliament. While knowledge of these topics would be useful you could have experience of dealing with statistics in these and/or other areas covered by the Section. The job requires someone who is comfortable dealing with data and able to contextualise this for debates and policy discussion. The work often involves collaboration with researchers in other sections who are dealing with the legal or technical aspects of policy.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

• Research and briefing work on statistics within the Commons Library including:
  • Providing accurate, impartial, clear, fit-for-purpose written and oral briefings on legislation and topical issues on relevant subjects, in response to specific enquiries from Members and their staff.
  • Preparing and publishing new briefing papers and data as required (e.g. on legislation and topical issues, and on matters of interest to Parliament and MPs, such as data for parliamentary constituencies) and updating them as appropriate. This includes collaborating with colleagues when appropriate and commenting constructively on others' work.
• Supporting the broader work of the Social & General Statistics Section, which may include research work on any of the subjects covered by the team.
• Maintaining good current awareness, level of knowledge and range of contacts on specialist subjects, and a broad current awareness of all subjects dealt with by the section.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

• Knowledge and experience of using official statistics for the UK and other countries in one or more areas covered by the Social & General Statistics Section. Experience of making statistics accessible to non-specialists and a good knowledge of current affairs and UK public policy.
• Ability to collate complex, technical material, relevant to a subject and to analyse, interpret and present it clearly and accurately for a non-specialist. Experience of using Excel and tools such as R or Power BI to analyse and present data.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to explain complex information clearly and succinctly with strict political impartiality and authority, in line with the needs of the audience.
• Experience of prioritising workload for yourself to ensure changing short, medium and long-term demands and deadlines are met.
• Ability to work successfully within a team, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
