As a Physical Scientist (Senior R&D Analyst), you will:

- Work with Division Manager, Analysts, Project Managers, external stakeholders, and team members from different areas of expertise to determine appropriate work and test procedures for materials used in currency such as inks, papers, and special substrates.
- Plan and perform investigations to develop new methods and means of validating findings. Isolates unknown and novel conditions to develop methods and assessment techniques.
- Determine data required and personally, or in concert with data review and analysis personnel, determine the accuracy required to permit meaningful statistical interpretation of test results and what degradation may result from poor data.
- Serve as a Designated Laboratory Representative and custodian of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure teamwork products meet the goals of the organization.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Specialist Research Nurse to join the Oxford Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team at the Churchill Hospital.

The Senior Specialist Nurse will lead the nursing team to provide expert nursing care to patients referred to the Oxford BMT service contributing to this within the BMT pathway through management of their own caseload.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the Haematology Trial Unit , which is involved in a wide spectrum of clinical research relating to blood disorders including advanced cellular therapeutics. The team works in collaboration with academic and commercial partners/other funding bodies and is responsible for the delivery of the phase 1-3 haematology research portfolio.

The Specialist Research Nurse will
• Responsibility for operational management of the clinical research delivery team

Responsibility for strategic leadership of clinical research delivery team

Responsibility for the management of the trial portfolio and own allocated portfolio of studies and study participants including, as required:

Ø Leading and co-ordinating a portfolio of studies

Ø Planning

Ø Scheduling

Ø Conduct including intervention

Ø Recruitment & retention of participants

Data management

v Fulfil the expectations and capabilities as delegated by the Sponsor, Chief Investigator or Principal Investigator as set out in GCP & Research Governance Framework

v Work collaboratively with OUH and external research & service delivery colleagues to ensure high quality participant care and research delivery.

v Work collaboratively with service delivery colleagues to promote clinical research delivery and integrated care delivery as appropriate.

v Act as PI/CI on non-interventional studies, as appropriate.

In summary, the post holder will provide expert nursing care to patients enrolled into clinical trials at the Oxford BMT Research service.

Specifically, this would include:


• Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care during participation in cell therapy clinical research trials (eg bone marrow transplant or CAR-T therapy trials)

• Manage own clinical workload and co-ordinate allocated clinical trials and research studies.

• Practice in compliance with the code of professional conduct, being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions, or omissions, taking responsibility for clinical decisions where competent to do so.

• Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in the management of clinical research participants.

• Utilise effective communication skills through a variety of methods, supporting participants in decision making in relation to study entry and participation.

• Deliver effective communication skills with colleagues both internally and/or externally, in verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods, adapting to changing parameters as required, which includes thorough accurate documentation in patient records as required. • Provides and receives highly sensitive, complex or contentious information relating to participant involvement and care, and communicates information to participants, families or carers with respect, compassion and empathy

• Participate in and ensure compliance with Informed Consent Procedures, acting within boundaries of own competency, research regulation and Trust policies/SOPs.

• Use own professional judgment identifying when to escalate and seek senior support/guidance.

• Lead the completion of administrative tasks, including feasibility, study set up, close out & archiving.

• Ensure compliance with agreed SOPs, across all team members.

• Ensure all necessary regulatory approvals are in place prior to approaching potential study participants.

• Work within the limits of the approved protocol and any approved amendments.

• Support the haematology ward, ambulatory care and day treatment unit staff in caring for these patients

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an experienced science professional who will provide a comprehensive efficient and effective range of technical support to meet the needs of the department. This will include preparation and maintenance of resources, ordering of supplies and supporting both staff and students in the classroom. You will need to be enthusiastic, flexible and confident in supporting practical work to A level. You may be required to work across all science departments, but specific departmental training will be provided where appropriate.
